AESCULUS STUDY DAYS 9-10th MAY
Do not miss this opportunity to learn all about Aesculus at the incredible Kalmthout arboretum in Belgium.
Link in bio to register

Aesculus are handsome shrubs and trees from the northern hemisphere. Most species come from North America and Asia, but there are also several hybrids and many named cultivars. While Aesculus hippocastanum may be the flagship and the most well-known horsechestnut for Europeans, there are many more to plant and enjoy in parks, gardens and pots.

On Saturday we’ll have talks on the species and hybrids and their use, followed by a visit of Arboretum Kalmthout with special attention on Aesculus. There is an exhibit with Aesculus inspired and Aesculus designed objects in the gallery of the arboretum.

On Sunday there is the option to visit Arboretum Oudenbosch, their flagship species is Aesculus. This entirely volunteer-run arboretum in The Netherlands is less than 30 minutes driving from Kalmthout. Mid-afternoon everybody can make their own way back home.

This study day is a shared initiative between the International Dendrology Society and the Belgian Dendrology Society, offering an excellent opportunity to meet members from both organisations.

1. Aesculus wilsonii
2. Aesculus pavia ‘Humilis’
3. Aesculus x missisipiensis
4. Aesculus x mutabilis ‘Induta’
5. Aesculus hippocastanum ‘Baumannii’

The countdown has begun to The IDS Summer Cocktail Party

Taking place during the same week as the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the IDS Cocktail Party returns on the 19th of May in an elegant new setting at The Royal Thames Yacht Club in Knightsbridge.

Hosted within the ground floor Britannia Bar, with a private outdoor deck offering a rare vantage point over the plane trees of Hyde Park, guests are invited to gather for an evening of conversation, cocktails and canapés, set against the backdrop of early summer in the city – let’s hope for good weather!

This year the IDS Cocktail Party is kindly supported by Sapling Spirits, a pioneering brand placing sustainability at the forefront of its production. Committed to being climate positive, Sapling plants a tree for every bottle sold, with each one traceable through its tree tracker—creating a transparent and tangible link between every purchase and its environmental impact.

Members only event! Please go to website or see your emails to buy tickets.
