Our principal aim is to reduce the number of feral cats in the area, by trapping and neutering

d whenever possible rescuing and re homing abandoned cats and kittens. There is a massive problem which exists all over Spain of growing numbers of colonies of abandoned cats most of whom live short miserable lives, often starving, poisoned, victims of road accidents or of deliberate cruelty
We have found many cats and kittens dumped not only in colonies where they struggle to fit in but also thrown into bins or tied up in plastic bags and left to die. We aim to educate people about the abandonment of animals and to improve the relationship between people and free living cat colonies. After Trapping and neutering feral cats are released back to their colonies where they can then lead healthier lives. We endeavour to continue caring for any colonies of cats for which we have taken responsibility. We have managed to rehome many friendly cats and kittens, often working with other animal rescue associations in Andalucia and using contacts in other countries when there aren't homes here in Spain for them. Help Street Gatos is a voluntary organisation and we rely on the good nature and generous support of others to keep us going. We plan to sterilise as many stray and abandoned cats as we can, we also administer medical care where necessary and there are also many veterinary costs involved in preparing any rescued cat for rehoming.
