Ocean Angel, one of our Coexist creators putting in the work, literally.

This weekend she took on El Poris in Arico, on Tenerife's east coast, a stretch of coastline that gets hit hard by ocean currents carrying trash from thousands of miles away (yes, potentially as far as the US, thanks to the Atlantic current).

Two hours in, four industrial bin bags of plastic and deadly fishing rope removed.

Her running total is now 9,152.80 kilos, just 848 kilos away from hitting 10,000kg. That's 526 kilos removed in the last six weeks alone.

This is what grassroots ocean action looks like. No corporate campaign, no big budget, just one person deciding a stretch of coastline mattered enough to show up for.

Whales, dolphins, turtles and sharks share these waters. Every bag removed is one less thing standing between them and a cleaner home.

Follow her journey, and if you're inspired to get involved locally, that's the whole point.

Recent studies of human brain tissue samples suggest that roughly 0.5% of the brain's weight may consist of micro- and nanoplastics.

It's estimated that between 10 to 40 million tons of these particles are released each year.
Recent landmark studies link microplastics to hundreds of thousands of human premature deaths globally causing strokes, heart disease and cancers.
The effect on wildlife is beyond comprehension.
We need to break up our toxic relationship with plastic.

All we can do is keep trying and remain hopeful that we can make a difference.

We have to stay positive that we can beat plastic pollution even when the situation seems hopeless.

We can be the solution but we have to work together 🙏 🌊💙

A very productive morning at El Poris in Arico, Tenerife.

4 huge industrial sized heavy duty bin bags filled with plastics, fishing ropes and some truly disgusting things!

What's a girl to do after a hard, back-breaking day in the hot sun?

An ice cold beer in the shade of course!

Cheers everyone 🍻😎

I spent the weekend at El Poris in the municipality of Arico on the East coast of Tenerife and began chipping away at its massive plastic problem as well as piles of fishing ropes that are deadly to marine life.

After two hours I removed four big industrial bin bags of trash.

This side of the island gets pounded by waves that bring in fresh trash every day that is trapped in the current.

Some of it has travelled from thousands of miles away as the Canarian current is connected to the Atlantic current so some if this could well of originated as far away as the United States!

I have decided to shift my focus and attention to this part of the island for the time being for beach cleans as I feel it's a much more productive use of my time and energy as the situation here is dire.

I'll still be scuba diving for ocean trash every day in the south though.

We have some truly amazing marine life in our waters including whales, dolphins, turtles and sharks that deserve to swim in clean and healthy water. They are at serious risk of ingesting plastic and becoming entangled in fishing gear and drowning.

There are little things that we can all do to make life easier for the ocean such as reducing or refusing single-use plastic, recycling where possible and binning our trash.

Just a wonderfully peaceful moment courtesy of our beautiful ocean.
This is why I dive for ocean trash.

This is what a healthy reef should look like.
Teeming with life and not a scrap of trash in sight.
Completely plastic free.
It's moments like this that give me hope that we can restore our oceans if we just try

A wonderful way to end the week with an invigorating full moon beach clean 😊

It's been a fantastic week!

I was joined by Stephen for a dive for ocean trash and we pulled two bag loads of rubbish out of the bay at La Pinta in Costa Adeje, Tenerife.

I dived several bays this week and cleaned three beaches creating a total of 63 kilos in all 💪💪💪

This brings my total to date to 9333 kilos so just 667 kilos to go till I hit my target of 10,000 kilos of trash removed from the sea by the end of this year.

I even rescued and re-homed a giant inflatable swan!

I have a new pair of gloves on the way but I'd also like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Bobby, Mandie, Ricky, Christine, Darko, and Matthew for their very kind donations to my Go Fund Me page. Link in Bio x

And also to my subscribers. It's your donations that keep me going and will eventually see me hit my target.

Finally a big thank you to everyone who has purchased my ocean themed pendants from my kiosk at Excel Scuba Tenerife at La Pinta beach.
These also help fund dives for ocean trash so I'm extremely grateful 🙏

Have a brilliant weekend everyone
