This year, Solidarity Fest took a different form as we joined the Festa do Albariño in Cambados by sponsoring the concert of Galician band . 🎶

Our volunteers also took part throughout the evening, helping with the organisation, welcoming visitors, running interactive activities and collecting donations for the cause.

All proceeds from the concert and donations collected during the event will support a scholarship for the Master’s Degree in Molecular Oncology, with a commitment to carry out research in paediatric oncology.

The event was also an opportunity for our volunteers to meet local people, take part in one of Cambados’ biggest cultural celebrations and contribute to a cause connected to scientific research.

Throughout the day, our volunteers had the opportunity to meet both local residents and visitors, introducing the work of Fundación Condado de Taboada, sharing the objectives of the Solidarity Gardens project, and explaining the opportunities offered by the European Solidarity Corps.

Our stand also showcased flowers, vegetables and seeds grown in our garden, giving visitors the chance to discover the project in a practical way and exchange ideas about gardening, sustainability and volunteering.

Meet Melisa, our long-term volunteer from Istanbul, Türkiye. 🇹🇷✨

She supports FCT through digital communication, content creation, website management, and workshop organisation, helping promote our projects and engage local communities.

She loves getting lost in new cities, collecting memories through her camera, and believes every day is better with a good sitcom and a friendly animal nearby. 🌍🎥📺🐾

As part of her European Solidarity Corps volunteering, our long-term volunteer Claire took part in an On-Arrival Training in Cercedilla. 🇪🇺

Organised for all new ESC volunteers in Spain, the training helps participants settle into their new environment, better understand the programme, improve their language skills, and connect with other volunteers from across the country. It was also a great opportunity to discover the beautiful surroundings of Cercedilla and the historic city of Segovia.

On 14 July, Pazo de Illobre hosted the inaugural conference on the opportunities that the upcoming total solar eclipse presents for astrotourism and sustainable regional development.

Bringing together institutions, tourism professionals and local organisations, the event highlighted how collaboration can transform a remarkable natural phenomenon into a long-term opportunity for local communities.

Our ESC volunteers also contributed to the event by preparing fresh lemonade and homemade zucchini soup, using vegetables harvested from the solidarity_gardens which were served during the coffee break.

Meet Lucy and the chickens 🐾🐔

In Betanzos, daily life includes a few furry and feathered teammates. 🐈🐓

Lucy the cat supervises everything from a distance, while the chickens make sure no one gets too comfortable.

Volunteers take care of them as part of the routine: feeding, cleaning, and checking in every day. It brings structure and responsibility, and reinforces a more grounded and sustainable way of living through daily care that builds awareness, consistency, and respect for living systems.
