تجربة زيارة المرصد تم عرضها بشكل مفيد وممتع، وقدرت توصل صورة حقيقية لأهمية المكان وقيمته البيئية الكبيرة.

والحقيقة إن مرصد طيور الجلالة بيؤكد يوما بعد يوم إنه واحد من أهم مواقع رصد الطيور على مستوى العالم، ونقطة محورية في مسار هجرة الطيور.

محتوى مهم زي ده بيساهم بشكل كبير في رفع الوعي وتعريف الناس بقيمة ثرواتنا الطبيعية… كل التوفيق دايما.

⁨ شم النسيم… والطبيعة في قلب عملنا

في شم النسيم، اليوم الذي يحتفل فيه المصريون بجمال الطبيعة منذ آلاف السنين، تستمر رحلة رصد الطيور المهاجرة من فوق جبل الجلالة، في مشهد يجمع بين الحركة والحياة.

ومع نسيم الربيع وألوانه التي تملأ الأجواء، يظل التذكير حاضرا بأن الطبيعة ليست مجرد لحظة جمال نمر بها، بل هي أساس التوازن والحياة التي نعيشها كل يوم.

في هذا اليوم المميز، يتجدد المعنى الحقيقي للاحتفال بالطبيعة… أن نحميها ونحافظ عليها لتبقى دائما مصدرا للحياة والجمال.

مقال رائع بيجسّد تجربة استثنائية… مش بس في رصد الطيور، لكن في معنى أعمق للارتباط بالطبيعة

First Day in the Field

After completing the theoretical training, our trainees joined the team on the mountain for the first day of their practical training at the Galala Bird Observatory.

The conditions were not the easiest. Strong winds and challenging weather tested everyone on the ridge, but the team’s enthusiasm and readiness to learn made the day truly rewarding. Field training is where theory meets practice—where identification skills are sharpened, monitoring techniques are applied, and the rhythm of migration is experienced in real time.

Standing on the mountain, scanning the skies together, the trainees began their first steps in the world of raptor monitoring. Every passing silhouette became a lesson, every observation an opportunity to learn.

This is how new observers are shaped—through patience, curiosity, and long hours under the open sky.

The season has begun, and the mountain is already full of stories waiting to unfold.

أول يوم في الميدان

بعد انتهاء الجزء النظري من التدريب، انضم المتدربون إلى فريق المرصد على الجبل لبدء أول يوم من التدريب العملي في مرصد طيور الجلالة.

الظروف ماكنتش سهلة. الرياح كانت قوية والتغيرات الجوية كانت تحدي لكل الناس على قمة الجبل، لكن حماس المتدربين واستعدادهم للتعلم جعل من اليوم تجربة مميزة. التدريب الميداني هو اللحظة اللي بتتحول فيها المعرفة النظرية إلى ممارسة حقيقية، وبتتطور مهارات التعريف بالطيور وتُطبق أساليب الرصد والعدّ في قلب مسار الهجرة.

على الجبل، وعينينا للسماء، بدأ المتدربون أولى خطواتهم في عالم رصد الطيور الجارحة. كل طائر درس جديد، وكل رصد فرصة للتعلم.

هنا بنكون جيل جديد من المراقبين؛ بالصبر، والفضول، وساعات طويلة تحت السما المفتوحة.

الموسم بدأ، وقصص الهجرة بدأت تتكشف.

مع أول يوم عدّ و رصد للطيور المهاجرة هذا الصباح في مرصد طيور الجلالة، نبدأ موسما جديدا من المتابعة العلمية والتوثيق، بالتزامن مع شهر رمضان المبارك.

انطلاق موسمنا في رمضان يحمل معنى خاصا؛ شهر الصبر، والرحمة، والتأمل…
نبدأه بمواصلة رسالتنا في حماية الطيور المهاجرة ودعم الجهود العلمية لحماية مسارات هجرتها.

Today marks the official start of the new monitoring season at Galala Bird Observatory

This morning we conducted the first bird count of the season, launching a new period of scientific monitoring and migration documentation, beginning during the blessed month of Ramadan.

Starting our season in Ramadan carries a special meaning,
a month of reflection, patience, and dedication.
We continue our mission to protect migratory birds and support conservation science along this vital flyway.

Destiny in Flight: Meet Patricia

Migration isn’t just a seasonal event—it’s a call to witness, to wonder, and to act.

Meet Patricia Kansime, a birdwatcher and guide from Uganda. She traveled all the way to Galala, eager to see the Egyptian Vulture—a dream she fulfilled here as a lifer. Yet, among the countless flocks that painted our skies, it was the storks that truly stole her heart.

For Patricia, Galala is best summed up by storks, Egyptian Vultures, and NCE's experts. She describes her counting experience as unforgettable, full of learning, and enriched simply by being close to our dedicated team.

Patricia was captivated not only by the birds, but also by the breathtaking scenery and the closeness with which migration reveals itself at Galala. She carries a message to women birders back home in Uganda: to come and witness what cannot be described, only experienced.

Galala Bird Observatory is a reminder that conservation knows no borders.



قدرٌ في السماء: تعرفوا على باتريسيا

الهجرة ليست مجرد حدث موسمي—إنها نداء للعلم، وللتأمل، والحماية.

تعرفوا على باتريسيا كانسيمي، مُراقِبة طيور ومرشدة من أوغندا. قطعت كل هذه المسافة إلى الجلالة بشغف لرؤية النسر المصري—وتحقق الحلم.

بالنسبة لباتريسيا، تلخص الجلالة في اللقلق، والنسر المصري، وفريق الجمعية المصرية لحماية الطبيعة الذين التقت بهم. تصف تجربتها في العد بأنها لا تُنسى، مليئة بالتعلم، ومثرية فقط بفضل قربها من خبرائنا المتفانين.

لم تبهرها الطيور فحسب، بل كذلك طبيعة سلسلة الجبال التي تقع عليها مرصدنا، ومستوى القرب الذي تكشف به الهجرة عن نفسها. وتحمل رسالة إلى النساء المراقبات للطيور في أوغندا: تعالوا لتشهدوا ما لا يمكن وصفه، بل فقط عيشه.

مرصد الجلالة للطيور يذكّرنا بأن الحماية لا تعرف الحدود.

Destiny in Flight: Meet Diana

Migration isn’t just a seasonal event—it’s a call to witness, to wonder, and to act.

Meet Diana Serem, birdwatcher, guide, and Chairperson of the Kenya Women Birders Club. She flew all the way to Galala from Kenya, driven by her love for migratory birds—especially raptors. But among the flocks that graced our skies, it was the storks that stole her heart.

Diana grew up with nature as an inseparable part of her life. Today, she is a conservation storyteller, using her voice and vision to inspire. For her, conservation is a journey—one that asks us to learn from the past, reflect on change, and build a better future for generations to come.

Curiosity, patience, and resilience are the tools she carries on this path—tools that keep her grounded and connected to the natural world.

Diana didn’t just come to count species. She came to connect. And to remind us that conservation has no borders.

Destiny in Flight: Meet Martha

Migration isn’t just a flight corridor—it’s a force that ties past to present, land to sky, and people to purpose.

Meet Martha, a birder, tour guide, and artist from Kenya whose connection to nature runs deep. Her journey with Egypt's birds began a long time ago—and in fact, she was part of the first-ever monitoring team at the Galala plateau back in 2012.

Over the years, Martha has explored wild landscapes across East Africa and beyond, guided not only by science but also by ancestral wisdom—an understanding that nature is not a resource, but a relative.

Returning to Galala this spring, she joined the observatory as a counter, standing atop the mountain, this time not just as a witness but as part of its growing legacy. In her words and presence, Martha reminds us that conservation begins with consciousness—and that knowledge passed through generations can guide how we care for the world around us.

Some follow birds. Some follow memory. Martha follows both.

القدر في السماء: قابلوا مارثا

الهجرة مش مجرد طريق في السما—دي قوة بتربط بين الماضي والحاضر، وبين الأرض والهوا، وبين الناس ورسالتهم.

قابلوا مارثا، مُراقِبة طيور، مرشدة سياحية، وفنانة من كينيا، رحلتها مع الطبيعة ممتدة من سنين. كانت جزء من أول فريق راقب الطيور تحت سفح جبل الجلالة سنة ٢٠١٢، قبل حتى ما المرصد يبقى حقيقة.

على مدار السنين، اكتشفت مارثا الطبيعة في شرق أفريقيا وغيرها، مش بس بعين العِلم، لكن كمان بقلب بيحمل حكمة الأجداد—فهم بيقول إن الطبيعة مش مجرد مورد، دي قريبة لينا.

رجوعها للجلالة الربيع ده كان مليان معنى—مش بس علشان تعد الطيور، لكن علشان تبقى جزء من الحكاية اللي بدأتها في مصر من أكتر من عشر سنين. بكلماتها وحضورها، بتفكرنا إن الوعي هو أول خطوة في الحماية، وإن المعرفة اللي بتعدي من جيل لجيل ممكن تهدينا في علاقتنا مع العالم اللي حوالينا.

في ناس بتتبع الطيور، وفي ناس بتتبع الذكريات، ومارثا بتتبع الاتنين.

As always, we’re sharing with you the total numbers, hours spent, and the team behind this season’s success.
Thank you for your support and belief in the Observatory.

Year after year, the Observatory continues to prove its success with strength and steady progress. And we’re filled with gratitude — for the birds, the mountain’s gifts, the resident and migratory species, and even the friends who fly with the birds each year: the paragliding community, who — by the way — were the reason the Eagle Eye, our main counting point, was discovered in the first place.

The Observatory isn’t just a research site for collecting migratory bird data — it’s also a heart that brings together people from diverse backgrounds, connected by a shared love for nature.
This love shows in how each person, through their unique practice, treats the place with deep respect.

We’re very excited to welcome visitors once the Observatory is fully ready, inshallah.

This time, we’re sharing the top 10 species that passed over the Observatory this season, and we’ll be updating you very soon with the remaining 22 species.

This year, we spent over 700 hours on the mountain, during which we recorded 967,369 soaring birds and raptors.

We were also joined by 21 counters this season — a mix of core team members, national and international volunteers, and trainees — each of whom played a vital role in making this season a success.

And for the first time ever, the Levant Sparrowhawk topped the list — something that makes us even more excited for next year. Every day on the mountain is different, and that’s what makes the results change from year to year and keeps us curious to monitor and compare the data more closely.

زي ما اتعودنا، بنشارككم إجمالي الأعداد، وعدد الساعات، والفريق اللي كان ورا نجاح الموسم السنة دي.
إحنا بنشكركم على دعمكم وإيمانكم بالمرصد.

المرصد سنة بعد سنة بيثبت نجاحه بقوة وبخطوات ثابتة، وإحنا في امتنان كبير — من أول الطيور وهدايا الجبل، من أول الأنواع المقيمة والعابرة، وحتى الأصدقاء اللي بيطيروا كل سنة مع الطيور، من محبي الطيران المظلي (الباراجلايدنج) اللي بالمناسبة كان السبب ورا اكتشاف نقطة الرصد الأساسية

المرصد مش بس مكان بحثي لجمع البيانات عن الطيور المهاجرة، بل كمان قلب بيجمع ناس من خلفيات مختلفة، واللي بيربطهم هو حب الطبيعة.
وده بيظهر في إزاي الناس دي كلها، بممارستها المختلفة، بيحترموا المكان بكل ما فيه.

وإحنا متحمسين جدًا نرحب بالزوار لما المرصد يكتمل إن شاء الله.

المرة دي إحنا بنشارككم أعداد أكثر ١٠ أنواع عدّوا من المرصد السنة دي، وهنوافيكم بالأنواع الـ٢٢ المتبقية قريب جدًا.

السنة دي كنا على الجبل أكتر من ٧٠٣ ساعة، عدّينا فيهم ٩٦٧,٣٦٩ طائر من الجوارح والطيور الحوامة.

وكان معانا السنة دي ٢١ راصد، ما بين الفريق الأساسي، والمتطوعين المحليين والدوليين، والمتدربين — وكل واحد فيهم كان ليه دور مهم في نجاح الموسم ده.

ولأول مرة، الباشق الشامي بيتصدر القائمة، وده بيحمسنا جدًا للسنة اللي جاية — لأن كل يوم مختلف، وده بيخلي نتائج كل سنة تختلف، وبيخلينا نراقب ونقارن البيانات بفضول أكبر.
