Khaun Congress by the Egyptian Small Animal Veterinary Association had some really fantastic lectures that inspired our team and taught us new clinical skills which will directly help the stray and street animals of Cairo.

It was really fantastic to see the rooms brimming with veterinarians coming to learn new skills from international educators.

This conderence was supported by
And and it's clear just how beneficial an event like this can be to the profession in a country like Egypt, where clinicians are so eager to learn more and develop their skills, to provide better care to their patients.

From pain management to wound care, sterility techniques to surgery techniques, and much in between. We had a hugely educational few days.Thank you ESAVA.

Snaps from ESAVA (Egyptian small animal veterinary association) conference earlier this month.

Named Kahun Congress, initially we weren't too sure what this was in reference to. So we did some investigating! The Kahun Veterinary Papyrus (dating back to 1800 B.C.) is the oldest known veterinary document in the world. Discovered by archaeologists in 1889 in the ancient Egyptian town of El-Lahun, it consists of fragmented texts that outline early treatments and diagnoses for animals! How cool is that!

We were delighted to be able to take our whole Egyptian team to this conference, to attend lectures from international leaders in their field. It really brought a huge amount of new knowledge to the team on topics, ranging from wound management to sterility, pain management, to acute patient care.

We look forward to attending next year and no doubt see a growth of this great educational event.

Work in Egypt, with no trending audio.

We recently attended this shelter to help sterilise some nearby stray dogs. Many of these cats are also unsterilised, some of them are even ready to go abroad to be adopted, but first need to be spayed and neutered before they can be sent.

We can continue this work only with your help. You can donate to help us reach more animals. Every week and every month, please consider the link in our bio 🙏

Learning that saves lives 🐾

Dr. Gemma guiding Dr. Reem through a flank spay on a cat - a technique often used for safer, faster recovery in field conditions. Every skill passed on means more animals helped, fewer unwanted litters, and a stronger future for community care ❤️

Real change starts with education 🐾

In Egypt, thousands of stray animals are born every day into lives of suffering - not because people don’t care, but because many simply don’t know that sterilisation is the most humane and effective way to control the population.

By educating communities about spaying and neutering, we can prevent disease, reduce suffering, and create a safer environment for both animals and people. Awareness saves lives - and it starts with all of us ❤️

Tiny paws, big fight 🐾

This little German Shepherd puppy came in to see Dr Gemma with vomiting and diarrhoea - symptoms we never take lightly. In young pups, this can be a sign of parvovirus, a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease that attacks the gut and immune system.

Early treatment can make all the difference, and vaccination is the best protection ❤️

We’ll update you on the little one’s story.

Did you know… 👀

Egypt is home to an estimated 10–11 million stray dogs alone-and that’s not even counting the millions of stray cats living on the streets.

Now imagine this…

To simply stabilise the dog population (not even reduce it), at least 70% must be sterilised. That means around 7–8 million dogs need to be neutered.

If we wanted to achieve that over the next 5 years, it would require sterilising 4,000+ dogs every single day - and that’s without including cats.

The reality? Current efforts are only reaching a tiny fraction of that number.

💔 This is why the cycle never stops…
💔 This is why shelters are overwhelmed…
💔 This is why so many animals suffer and die on the streets

Sterilisation isn’t just important - it’s the only humane way to break this cycle.

Every single surgery matters. Every single life matters. 🐾
