As the people of Bangsamoro head to the polls tomorrow for the historic First Parliamentary Election in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the Philippine Students’ Association in Cairo makes a sincere appeal to all candidates, political parties, their supporters, and all members of the Bangsamoro community to uphold piety, justice, wisdom, Islamic brotherhood, and peace and security during this important historic moment.
Allah Almighty says:
“And hold firmly, all together, to the rope of Allah and do not be divided.”
Differences in political opinions and choices are natural in any electoral process. However, such differences should never become a cause of hatred, hostility, or division among the members of the Ummah. Political positions may differ, but the bond of faith and Islamic brotherhood is greater and more enduring.
Allah Almighty says:
“The believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers.”
Accordingly, we urge everyone to remain mindful of Allah and to make gentleness, wisdom, and reconciliation their guiding principles during this period, while ensuring that political competition remains within the bounds of justice and the noble ethics taught by Islam. Differences should be resolved through peaceful dialogue, lawful means, and sound consultation, far removed from violence, provocation, and incitement.
Allah Almighty says:
“Do not let the hatred of a people cause you to depart from justice. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness.”
We remind our brothers and sisters that Islamic brotherhood is higher than political differences, and that political positions and offices are temporary, whereas the bond of faith endures. No political interest or worldly gain should ever cause us to forget the sanctity of human life, the dignity of our fellow Muslims, and our duty to preserve brotherhood and unity.
In this regard, the Philippine Students’ Association in Cairo emphasizes that it is a strictly non-partisan organization. It does not align itself with, endorse, support, or oppose any candidate, political party, coalition, or political faction. This appeal is made solely out of our sincere concern for peace, justice, unity, and the welfare of the people of Bangsamoro, and in accordance with the Islamic principles of brotherhood, compassion, and reconciliation.
We call upon all parties to reject fitnah, hatred, intimidation, provocation, and violence, and to ensure that this historic electoral process becomes a reflection of the awareness and maturity of the Bangsamoro people and their ability to exercise their political rights in an atmosphere of security, respect, and responsibility.
We ask Allah Almighty to make every choice one founded upon trustworthiness, piety, and a sense of responsibility before Him, to guide all to what is best for the country and its people, to guide the candidates and voters toward what is right and beneficial, to protect the people of Bangsamoro from discord and division, to preserve peace and security, and to grant this election success, integrity, and order.
May this election be an occasion for strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, upholding justice, serving the interests of the people, and preserving the unity of the community.
