This week, we participated in the 6th edition of Khatwa’26, Egypt’s leading inclusive employment forum dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities and enhancing their access to the labor market.
The event was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity, H.E. Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E. Mr. Gohar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, and H.E Dr. Hala Elsaid, Economic Advisor to H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi Former Minister of Planning & Economic Development, bringing together government representatives, private sector leaders, civil society organizations, and more than 2,500 job seekers with disabilities from across Egypt.
As part of the event, Mr. Abdullah Essam; our founder, was recognized for his contributions and commitment to advancing disability inclusion and supporting initiatives that promote equal opportunities, empowerment, and social participation for persons with disabilities.
This recognition reflects the importance of collaborative efforts between civil society, public institutions, and the private sector in building more inclusive communities and creating sustainable pathways for the economic and social empowerment of persons with disabilities.
We remain committed to promoting inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities through youth work, community engagement, and partnerships that contribute to a more inclusive society for all.

We are delighted to have participated in the Upscale in ESC training course, which took place from June 1st to 5th in Tangier, Morocco.
As an active organisation in the South-Mediterranean region and a recent quality label holder, this training was an incredible opportunity for our team to connect with fellow South-Med ESC coordinators and practitioners.
Over three intensive working days, we focused on sharing best practices, exploring new tools to better support our volunteers' learning journeys, and building strong regional networks. We are returning with an upgraded toolkit, fresh insights, and a concrete action plan to elevate the quality of our European Solidarity Corps projects!

Shemool For Development Association is delighted to take part in the “Youth Exchanges for ALL” Training Course, currently taking place in the historic city of Fez, Morocco.

The training brings together 24 participants from Erasmus+ Programme Countries and the SouthMed region, creating a dynamic space for learning, collaboration, and intercultural exchange. Throughout the coming days, participants will explore how to design and implement more inclusive youth exchange programmes that provide young people with safe and empowering environments to learn, connect, and grow.

The programme includes interactive workshops and non-formal education activities focusing on inclusion and diversity in youth work. Participants will exchange experiences, present the work of their organisations, deepen their understanding of inclusive youth exchanges, and develop practical approaches that can be applied within their local communities and future Erasmus+ projects.

We are excited to contribute to this inspiring learning journey and look forward to the outcomes, partnerships, and ideas that will emerge throughout the training.

Ahmed Masry lives with the effects of a birth complication that caused oxygen deprivation in the brain, along with stiffness in his left shoulder and an impact on the left side of his body. One of his biggest challenges has been proving his place among able bodied people, in sport, in work, and in society. But Ahmed has learned to face these challenges through confidence. For him, self-confidence is the key to overcoming. He builds it through sport, especially football and running, through succeeding in work tasks and professional responsibilities, and through social participation, dialogue, and sharing experience with others. The football team means even more than sport: it is a way to challenge medical limitations, gain confidence, and take part in championships, forums, and wider social activities.

Hassan has lived with cerebral palsy since birth, but he has always carried a strong love for sport and football. One of his biggest dreams is not only to play, but also to take part in championships and live the experience of competition. For Hassan, the football team for people with cerebral palsy is much more than a team. It is his real outlet, the place where he can practice what he loves with freedom, energy, and joy. It gives him a wide space where he feels able to move, express himself, and imagine a bigger future through the game he loves.

Ahmed Eltaher has lived with the effects of oxygen deprivation at birth, and this shapes many of the challenges he faces in daily life. Some of the most difficult moments are not always dramatic; they are the small, repeated tasks that require precision, such as holding a cup or managing movement and communication in public places. Transport can also be difficult, and social challenges can create emotional pressure in relationships and daily interaction. But Ahmed responds to these difficulties with awareness and adaptation. Sometimes he avoids a situation, and sometimes he reduces its impact through simple practical solutions, body language, and careful planning. For Ahmed, the football team is not only about sport. It is a space of comfort, recreation, and belonging ... a place where he can meet people who understand this part of his life and feel more at ease.

Mina Sami lives with hemiplegia that began in childhood, and this creates challenges in movement and physical training. Sometimes, he needs extra support and attention in order to keep developing himself. But Mina does not see that as a reason to stop. He chooses patience, continuous training, and steady improvement step by step. For him, the football team is more than a place to play. It is a space of passion, joy, and hope. Through commitment and persistence, Mina keeps moving toward his dream of one day playing professionally.

Hassan Zizo grew up loving football and dreaming of playing for Al Ahly. Because cerebral palsy caused involuntary movement in his body, his path in sport was not straightforward. He trained in an academy with other players, but did not get the same opportunities in matches. Still, he kept searching for a place where he could play, develop, and belong. Over time, he moved through different teams and competitions, won medals, and eventually joined the CP football pathway in Egypt. But Hassan’s dream did not stop at the field. He also loved fashion from an early age and began working toward becoming the first Egyptian model with cerebral palsy. His story is about more than achievement, it is about being visible, claiming space, and encouraging others with disabilities to step into life, society, and their own ambitions with confidence.

Mohamed Ryad’s story begins with survival. At birth, he did not cry immediately, and his family believed they had lost him, until he cried at the last moment and held on to life. Later, cerebral palsy affected his movement, speech, and physical growth, but he refused to let that define his future. When he was denied entry to regular school, he insisted on his place and continued proving himself. He studied, completed university, wrote poetry, worked with his father, and found in football a space to express talent and dignity. As a member and leader within Egypt’s CP football community, Mohamed continues to challenge the painful comments society directs at people with disabilities. His story is one of resilience, skill, and humanity, carried by determination, love for the game, and deep gratitude for the mother who helped him become independent.
