The Fowa Heritage and Tourism Foundation is based in the town of Fowa, in the governorate (state/ province) of Kafr Ashaykh, Egypt . To the north of Cairo, the Nile River divides in half; one branch flowing into the city of Damietta to the north east, and the other branch of the Nile flows northwestward into the city of Rosetta. Fowa lies on the western branch of the Nile. Fowa is about 60 miles (
90 km) south east of Alexandria, and 118 miles (190 km) north west of Cairo. Fowa is famous for its Islamic monuments from the Mamluk and Ottoman eras and for various handicrafts, the most common being woven textiles on looms. Fishing is also one of the major sources of income for the inhabitants of Fowa. Tourists can enjoy a boat ride on the Nile with one of the fishermen. Just a few minutes’ drive from the town of Fowa, visitors can reach a number of nearby villages and experience the life of the countryside.
