On , Tayseer’s story is a reminder of what access to healthcare means for refugees forced to flee. 💙
At 25, Tayseer arrived in Egypt after escaping the conflict in Sudan with her husband and young daughter. Like many, they fled with almost nothing, after a long and dangerous journey to safety.
Months later, Tayseer was seriously injured in a road accident, sustaining multiple fractures and a brain hemorrhage. Her condition was critical.
Because she was registered with UNHCR, she was able to access emergency and hospital care through Egypt’s public health system. UNHCR teams supported her family throughout—helping her access the treatment she urgently needed.
Today, Tayseer is recovering at home, but her needs continue. She requires physiotherapy to walk properly again, yet access remains limited. With Tayseer unable to work, the family is struggling to meet basic needs.
Tayseer is one of thousands of refugees in Egypt facing similar challenges in accessing and affording essential healthcare. As needs continue to grow, available resources are increasingly stretched.
On this World Health Day, the message is clear: access to healthcare must go beyond emergency response—so that refugees can not only survive, but recover and rebuild their lives with dignity.

وصلت تيسير، البالغة من العمر 25 عاماً، إلى مصر بعد أن فرت من النزاع في السودان مع زوجها وطفلتها الصغيرة. مثل كثيرين غيرها، غادرت دون أن تحمل معها سوى القليل، بعد رحلة طويلة وخطيرة بحثاً عن الأمان.
بعد أشهر، تعرّضت تيسير لحادث سير خطير، ما أدى إلى إصابتها بكسور متعددة ونزيف في المخ. كانت حالتها حرجة.
وبفضل تسجيلها لدى UNHCR، تمكنت من الحصول على الرعاية الطارئة والعلاج في المستشفى من خلال النظام الصحي العام في مصر. وقد دعمت فرق UNHCR الأسرة طوال هذه الفترة، وساعدت في تسهيل دخولها إلى المستشفى وضمان حصولها على العلاج اللازم.
اليوم، تواصل تيسير رحلة التعافي في منزلها، لكنها لا تزال بحاجة إلى جلسات علاج طبيعي لتتمكن من المشي بشكل سليم، في وقت لا تزال فيه إمكانية الوصول إلى هذا النوع من الرعاية محدودة. ومع عدم قدرتها على العمل، تواجه الأسرة صعوبات متزايدة في تلبية احتياجاتها الأساسية.
تيسير واحدة من آلاف اللاجئين في مصر الذين يواجهون تحديات مماثلة في الحصول على الرعاية الصحية وتحمل تكاليفها. ومع تزايد الاحتياجات، تتعرض الموارد المتاحة لضغوط متزايدة.
