Big news from FIPRESCI — the International Federation of Film Critics has just unveiled the Documentary Grand Prix, a new annual award that will honour the best documentary of the year, selected by critics worldwide and first presented at Millennium Docs Against Gravity (MDAG) in May 2026.

The first visuals tied to this initiative are out — and they’re another stunning creation by Ukrainian designer Лили Топор, whose work has been shaping the federation’s refreshed visual language throughout its centennial year.

Can you guess the title of the classic documentary that’s been echoed here?

In its upcoming edition, taking place from March 7–13, 2026, BUFF Malmö Filmfestival will welcome a FIPRESCI Jury for the first time, marking a new collaboration between the International Federation of Film Critics and one of Europe’s leading platforms for children’s and youth cinema. This new partnership was made possible with the support of the ECFA - European Children's Film Association, of which BUFF Malmö Film Festival is a member.

FIPRESCI has consistently underlined the importance of cinema for children and young people as an essential space for imagination, dialogue, and critical reflection. BUFF Malmö stood out as a natural partner due to its long-standing commitment to quality programming, its focus on sustainability and education, and its role in fostering meaningful dialogue between films, audiences, and society.

Here we come to the end of a very special year, not only because it marked FIPRESCI’s 100-year anniversary, but also due to a change in the Federation’s management after about four decades of stability.

We consider it a resounding success: with celebration events organized around the globe, new juries and initiatives launched, the modernization of FIPRESCI’s image, and—above all—the overwhelming love and support we received everywhere from colleagues, partners, and all those who believe in our mission to foster film criticism, empower voices, and build a truly global community.

More than 350 critics from over 60 countries benefited from FIPRESCI membership in 2025 as jurors, speakers, contributors, mentors, and more. The Board remains committed to creating even more opportunities in the new year to support our profession and our colleagues.

On the link, you can see the recap of all events the federation run in partnership with festivals around the globe, an evidence that film critics all over the world stay committed to the Federation’s key value: to create, outside all ideological and political distinctions, a new foundation for a permanent dialogue through watching cinema.

Happy holidays, and here’s to the next fruitful 100 years of film criticism!

As critics, we consider a great director to be someone whose personal signature is present in all of their work. This is perfectly true of Ildikó Enyedi: all of her films are imbued with contemplative curiosity, gentleness, and love – a combination that results in a uniquely distinctive film form. In short, Enyedi’s films are unmistakable, a series of captivating, enjoyable stories and images about human destiny in our world.

During the 46th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (November 12-21), FIPRESCI presented the FIPRESCI 100 Lifetime Achievement Award to Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi.

"Dear Film Critics,

We meet you at this peak moment of our life, and with our heart in our throat we wait while you are sitting in the screening room. We know that a real journalist is first of all a real spectator, who knows that being in a dark cinema hall is a full body experience. Who foolishly, with the curiosity of a child but with trained and refined, finely tuned senses let the whole work through you. What you say, write in these moments is so important to us – it is like a fellow musician listening to a concert performance perceiving way more than the average concert goer".
