بينما يركز موقع زخارف القاهرة على الأنماط البصرية الملموسة بالقاهرة التاريخية، استكشف فريقنا أيضًا تاريخ الحرف التقليدية واستمرارها اليوم. خلال الدراسات الميدانية التي قام بها الفريق بين ٢٠٢٤ و٢٠٢٥ حول التطبيقات المعاصرة للزخارف باستخدام أساليب الحرف التقليدية، قمنا بالتعاون مع مصممين وحرفيين للتعمق في وسائل الربط بين الابتكار والحفاظ على التقاليد.

Meet ‘Am ‘Ali al-Sayyid Rifa‛i (aka ‘Ali ‘Bessa’), a traditional lantern-making samkary, and his reflection on the state of the fanus artisan.

While much of what is published on the Patterns of Cairo website relates to historic patterns and crafts, we have also been exploring how traditional crafts are practiced today. During our 2024-2025 exploration of contemporary applications of patterns using traditional crafting methods, in collaboration with designers and artisans, we delved on questions of where and how innovation and the traditional meet.

We will be releasing snippets of these encounters over the coming months. Stay tuned for these!

The tour concludes with a Wood veneer workshop, where participants design their own wooden coaster.

A Week in Al-Khalifa Camp is back with its Cairo Gates edition!

Sign your children up for the "Cairo Gates" Mini camp, where they will enjoy a hands-on educational experience exploring the beauty of Islamic architecture and the heritage of Historic Cairo through field visits, interactive games, and art workshops. انضموا إلينا في جولة داخل متحف جاير أندرسون لاكتشاف تاريخ البيت والأساطير المرتبطة به، في "بيت الكريتلية حول العالم" نتعرف عبرها على مقتنيات المتحف المختلفة. صُممت هذه الجولة لتكون تجربة مشتركة للأهالي وأطفالهم، حيث يستكشفون التراث ويلعبون ويتعلمون معًا. كما تتضمن الجولة ورشة حفر على النحاس للكبار، مع توفير ورق قصدير للحفر عليه للأطفال.
