The Swiss Fellowship for Inclusive Development is a fully funded opportunity to earn a Graduate Diploma in Public Policy or Public Administration at The School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at AUC at AUC The American University in Cairo. This fellowship is designed to bridge the classroom to the policymaking process in Egypt by equipping emerging professionals with the tools and experience needed to contribute meaningfully to inclusive and evidence-based policy development in Egypt.

SFID combines academic study with hands-on policy experience. Fellows will earn an AUC graduate diploma and contribute to the Hub’s research and policy work. Through this immersive experience, fellows will:
✅ Engage with the full policy cycle
✅ Work alongside experienced mentors and researchers on real development challenges
✅ Engage with experts, policymakers, and practitioners working to promote evidence-based and inclusive development pathways in Egypt.
✅ Contribute to research outputs and support the design of policy-relevant activities

The fellowship is part of the broader Future of Inclusive Development in Egypt (FIDE) project, funded by Switzerland 🇨🇭 and implemented by GAPP School. We are pleased to invite AUC students to participate in an upcoming series of Teaching Case Study piloting sessions at The Public Policy Hub, held at the New Cairo Campus on the 11th and 18th of April.

We are actively experimenting with innovative, case-based pedagogical approaches that move beyond traditional lecture formats toward more interactive, practice-oriented learning. These sessions are a collaborative space where participants contribute directly to refining how knowledge is produced, taught, and applied.

By participating, students will play a critical role in testing and refining this emerging pedagogical model; providing feedback on content, structure, and learning design. Your input will directly shape how these case studies are finalized and used in future academic and training settings.

Participants will be awarded certificates of participation for their engagement.

“Where Rigour Meets Creativity”
Public Policy Analysis Training
“Road Safety Policy Issues” – A round dedicated to honor Prof. Laila ElBaradei

Dates: Training will be held at the end of January/ Mid February 2026 (Exact dates TBC)

The “Policy Analysis” training will cover the following topics: Introduction to Public policy, urban contextual situation, Trends and public policy gaps and opportunities, Stakeholders analysis and engagement, Process of Public Policy development, Problem analysis and challenges, formulation of Policy alternatives, Development of policy paper and briefs, and policy advocacy.

Who can apply?
- Professionals in the urban/ transportation field or have an interest in urban/ transportation policies
- Holds a Master’s degree or is a graduate student.
- Individuals with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.

Why to Join the Public Policy HUB:
Through the training, you will get the opportunity to:
- Develop your skills in public policy analysis, writing policy papers, creative communication of policy recommendations and advocacy;

HUB Training commitments:
Throughout a period of 5 days, selected participant will commit to attend 5 days training on Public Policy Analysis, writing Effective Policy Briefs and how to advocate for policy recommendations (Training will be on Full working day from 9 am till 5 pm) in January/ February 2026 (exact days to be confirmed and communicated soon)

About The Public Policy HUB:
The Public Policy HUB, is designed to develop a cadre of well-informed and seasoned policy developers and advocates, while simultaneously fostering and promoting creative solutions to the challenges facing Egypt today. The aim of the project is to provide a processing unit or hub where policy teams are formed on a regular basis, combining experienced policy scholars/mentors with young creative policy analysts, provide them with the needed resources, training, exposure, space, tools, networks, knowledge and contacts to enable them to come up with sound, rigorous and yet creative policy solutions that have a greater potential to be effectively advocated and communicated to the relevant policy makers and to the general public.

The Public Policy Hub’s Sixth Annual Conference on Migration Policy Issues.

Last Thursday, November 27, 2025, the Public Policy Hub organized its sixth Annual Conference on “Migration Policy Issues” in cooperation with IOM EgyptEgypt under the SAWA Project funded by Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo

The conference started with remarks from Prof. Ghada Barsoum, Principal Investigator of the Public Policy Hub, Mr. Carlos Oliver Cruz, Chief of Mission IOM Egypt, and Ms. Aurora Leo, Coordinator of Migration and Gender Sectors at the Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo. This was followed by keynote addresses from Ambassador Naela Gabr, Chairperson of The National Coordinating Committee on Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons, and Ambassador Amr El-Sherbini, Assistant Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates.

The first session, "From Safety to Solidarity: Community Cohesion and Protection of Unaccompanied and Separated Migrant Children (UASC)", featured two policy paper presentations on social cohesion and protection of UASC, and a rich panel discussion chaired by Dr. Mohamed Elkaramany Assistant Professor of Public Policy at The School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at AUC, with insights from Dr. Ahmed Saada, CEO of the Civil Society Support Fund, Dr. Hayam Nazif, Vice Chairperson at the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, Ms. Lina Koussa, Head of the Protection Unit at IOM Egypt, and Ms. Heba El Azzazy, Child Protection Technical Advisor at Save the Children International.

The second session, "Access to Services: Labor, Education and Healthcare for Migrants and Refugees in Egypt", brought forward three policy papers on labor, education and health, and a high-level panel chaired by Prof. Ibrahim Awad, Director of The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies at the American University in Cairo, joined by Dr. Shereen Abdelhay, General Manager of the General Department for Women and Children Affairs at the Ministry of Labor, Dr. Mai Farid, CEO of the Universal Health Insurance Authority - UHIA, and Ms. Marwa Hamdy Mostafa, Head of the Labor, Mobility and Social Inclusion Unit at IOM Egypt.

The conference concluded with the announcement of the Social Cohesion team as the winner of the Best Paper Award, and the distribution of certificates, celebrating the incredible work and dedication of all participating researchers. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a meaningful and impactful dialogue on migration in Egypt.

المؤتمر السنوي السادس لملتقى السياسات العامة حول قضايا سياسات الهجرة

نظّم ملتقى السياسات العامة يوم الخميس الماضي، الموافق 27 نوفمبر 2025، المؤتمر السنوي السادس بعنوان "قضايا سياسات الهجرة"، وذلك بالتعاون مع المنظمة الدولية للهجرة IOM Egypt ضمن مشروع سوا SAWA المموّل من الوكالة الإيطالية للتعاون الإنمائي Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo.

بدأ المؤتمر بكلمات لكل من الأستاذة الدكتورة غادة برسوم، الباحث الرئيسي لملتقى السياسات العامة، والسيد كارلوس أوليفر كروز، رئيس بعثة المنظمة الدولية للهجرة في مصر، والسيدة أورورا ليو، منسقة قطاعي الهجرة والنوع الاجتماعي بالوكالة الإيطالية للتعاون الإنمائي – مكتب القاهرة. تلا ذلك كلمات رئيسية لكل من السفيرة نائلة جبر، رئيسة اللجنة الوطنية لمكافحة الهجرة غير الشرعية والاتجار بالبشر، والسفير عمرو الشربيني، مساعد وزير الخارجية للشؤون متعددة الأطراف والأمن الدولي بوزارة الخارجية والهجرة وشؤون المصريين بالخارج الصفحة الرسمية لوزارة الخارجية المصريةز

وجاءت الجلسة الأولى بعنوان:
"من الأمان إلى التضامن: التماسك المجتمعي وحماية الأطفال المهاجرين غير المصحوبين والمنفصلين عن ذويهم"، وشهدت عرض ورقتي سياسات حول التماسك المجتمعي وحماية الأطفال غير المصحوبين، تلتها مناقشة ثرية أدارها الدكتور محمد القرماني، أستاذ مساعد السياسات العامة بكلية الشؤون العالمية والسياسة العامة، بمشاركة كل من الدكتور أحمد سعدة، الرئيس التنفيذي Civil Society Support Fund صندوق دعم مشروعات الجمعيات والمؤسسات الأهلية، والدكتورة هيام نظيف، نائب رئيس المجلس القومي للطفولة والأمومة، والسيدة لينا كوسا، رئيسة وحدة الحماية بالمنظمة الدولية للهجرة IOM Egypt، والسيدة هبة العزازي، مستشارة فنية لحماية الطفل في Save the Children - Egypt CO هيئة انقاذ الطفولة، برنامج مصر

أما الجلسة الثانية، "الوصول إلى الخدمات: العمل والتعليم والرعاية الصحية للمهاجرين واللاجئين في مصر"، فقد تضمنت عرض ثلاث أوراق سياسات في مجالات العمل والتعليم والصحة، أعقبها نقاش رفيع المستوى برئاسة الأستاذ الدكتور إبراهيم عوض، مدير مركز دراسات الهجرة واللاجئين بالجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة Center for Migration and Refugee Studies، وبمشاركة الدكتورة شيرين عبد الحي، المدير العام للإدارة العامة لشؤون المرأة والطفل بوزارة العمل، والدكتورة مي فريد، الرئيس التنفيذي الهيئة العامة للتأمين الصحي الشامل، والسيدة مروة مصطفى، رئيسة وحدة العمل والتنقل والدمج الاجتماعي بالمنظمة الدولية للهجرة IOM Egypt.

اختُتم المؤتمر بالإعلان عن فوز فريق التماسك المجتمعي بجائزة أفضل ورقة سياسات، بالإضافة إلى توزيع الشهادات على الباحثين المشاركين تقديراً لجهودهم المتميزة.
