🏡💙 Some lessons cannot be taught in a classroom.
On Day 2 of the Manara School El Gouna Workcamp, students left presentations behind and stepped into the realities of the communities they had spent the previous day learning about.
In Ezbet Shehata village, students transformed from learners into active contributors, working side by side with local workers and community members in housing improvement activities. From carrying construction materials and filtering sand to supporting wall construction, they experienced first-hand the value of teamwork and community action. 👷‍♂️🧱🤝
But it was the conversations that left the deepest impact.
Students visited vulnerable families whose homes have been selected for reconstruction through Habitat for Humanity Egypt's housing programs. Sitting with homeowners, listening to their stories, and hearing about their hopes for a safer future transformed statistics and concepts into real people, real dreams, and real challenges.
For many students, this was the moment when housing became more than a topic—it became a human story.
They listened to parents speak about their aspirations for their children. They heard what a safe home could mean for a family's future. And they saw first-hand how adequate housing can restore dignity, create opportunity, and strengthen communities. 🌍✨
By the end of the day, students had contributed more than their time and effort. They had gained a new perspective, built meaningful connections, and discovered the power of standing alongside communities in their journey toward a better future.
Because every home tells a story and every story has the power to inspire action. 💙🏡

🏡💭 What does a home really mean?
Is it simply four walls and a roof? Or is it safety, dignity, opportunity, and a place where families can build their future?
Before stepping into communities and participating in construction activities, students of the Manara School El Gouna Workcamp spent their first day exploring these questions with Habitat for Humanity Egypt. 💙
Through interactive discussions, videos, animations, and real-life examples, students learned about the housing situation in Egypt, the concept of adequate housing, housing rights, and the challenges faced by vulnerable families.
The room quickly turned into a space for curiosity and dialogue. Students asked thoughtful questions, debated the differences between formal and informal settlements, and shared their own perspectives on what every family deserves to call home. 🏠✨
Participants also completed safeguarding training and learned how to engage with communities in a respectful, responsible, and meaningful way ahead of the field visits.
By the end of the day, something had changed.
The students were no longer preparing to visit houses, they were preparing to meet families, understand their realities, and become part of a journey toward stronger communities and better housing for all. 🤝🌍
Because every home has a story, and every story deserves to be heard.

🏡✨ What happens when young people connect with communities, listen to families, and build with their own hands?
Real impact happens. 💙
Habitat for Humanity Egypt, in partnership with CEOSS – Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services, hosted the Manara School El Gouna Workcamp, bringing together students, teachers, local partners, and HFHE staff for three inspiring days of learning, community engagement, and hands-on construction activities in Ezbet Shehata and El Ruby villages in Minya Governorate.
Students actively participated in construction and renovation activities, including bricklaying, wall construction, plastering, and supporting on-site work, experiencing first-hand the value of volunteerism and the impact of collective action. 👷‍♂️🧱🤝
They also visited vulnerable families whose homes have been selected for reconstruction through Habitat's housing programs, listening to their stories, aspirations, and hopes for a better future. In addition, students met homeowners who had already benefited from Habitat's interventions, giving them the opportunity to witness the life-changing impact of safe and adequate housing. 🌍✨
Through these meaningful interactions, students gained a deeper understanding of the challenges and aspirations of the families they met, while sharing their own ideas for creating better housing and stronger communities. 🏡💡🤝
Because building homes is not only about construction — it is about restoring dignity, creating hope, and empowering communities to thrive.
