Brooke Hospital for Animals in Egypt is an animal welfare non-gov.organization founded In 1934, dedicated to improve the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules. The attention of Brooke Hospital for Animals Egypt programme and investment has been focused on providing free veterinary treatment through the static and mobile clinics. More recently, over the past 5 years, additional activities have been undertaken such as community engagement, working in partnership with community based organizations and other local structures such as rural guides. Staff capacity has been built on the use of welfare assessment methodologies to measure whether animal welfare is improving.

Stronger Together for Rabies Prevention

“Stronger Together” is the theme of World Rabies Day 2026, highlighting the importance of collaboration between people and communities to prevent rabies and help reduce its spread.

Brooke’s mobile clinics continue to play an important role in rabies awareness and prevention by reaching animal owners and communities where they are, providing guidance on safe interactions with animals and recognising behaviours that can help prevent injuries.

This awareness also helps highlight the importance of vaccinating animals, caring for their health, and sharing the knowledge needed to prevent rabies.

برنامج التدريب العملي – جمعية مستشفى بروك الخيري لعلاج الحيوان

تعلن جمعية مستشفى بروك الخيري لعلاج الحيوان عن فتح باب التقديم لبرنامج التدريب العملي لخريجي كليات الطب البيطري خريجي دفعات 2023 و2024 و2025.

مدة التدريب : شهرين على ثلاثة فترات :

• الفترة الأولى : من 1 أكتوبر إلى 30 نوفمبر
• الفترة الثانية : من 1 ديسمبر إلى 31 يناير
• الفترة الثالثة : من 1 فبراير إلى 31 مارس

نظام التدريب :
• 5 أيام في الأسبوع
• من الساعة 9:00 صباحاً حتى 2:00 ظهراً

Internship Program – Brooke Hospital for Animals

Brooke Hospital for Animals is opening applications for its Internship Program for veterinary graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 graduating classes.

Training Duration: Two months in three periods :

• First period: From 1 October to 30 November
• Second period: From 1 December to 31 January
• Third period: From 1 February to 31 March

Training Schedule :
• 5 days per week
• From 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

• Practical training to gain veterinary experience and skills in the care and treatment of equine animals

يوم في عيادة بروك… ونافذة على عالم طب الخيول

استقبلت عيادة مستشفى بروك بالقاهرة زيارة من الجمعية الدولية لطلاب الطب البيطري بجامعة بدر، في يوم تعليمي جمع بين المعرفة النظرية والتطبيق العملي في مجال طب الخيول.

خلال الزيارة، تعرّف الطلاب على عدد من المهارات والمعلومات الأساسية التي يحتاجها الطبيب البيطري أثناء التعامل مع الخيل، بدايةً من قياس العلامات الحيوية والتعرّف على القيم الطبيعية وما قد يشير إلى وجود مشكلة.

كما تناول الشرح عددًا من أشهر الأمراض والمشكلات الصحية في الخيل، وكيف يمكن أن ترتبط ببعضها، ومن بينها داء البابيزيا، والتيتانوس، والمغص، والتهاب الصفائح الحساسة في الحافر، بالإضافة إلى مشكلات العرج وطرق تشخيصها بشكل عام.

ولأن أسنان الحصان تحمل معلومات مهمة عن عمره وحالته الصحية، تعرّف الطلاب أيضًا على كيفية تقدير عمر الحصان من خلال فحص الأسنان، إلى جانب أساسيات التعامل مع الجروح بمختلف أنواعها، وبعض أكثر مشكلات الأسنان شيوعًا.

كانت الزيارة فرصة للطلاب للتعرف بشكل أقرب على طبيعة العمل السريري مع الخيل، وربط ما يتعلمونه خلال دراستهم بالمواقف والإجراءات التي يواجهها الطبيب البيطري في الواقع.

نتطلع دائمًا إلى دعم طلاب الطب البيطري ومنحهم فرصًا للتعلّم والتعرّف على مجال طب الخيول عن قرب.





A Day at Brooke Clinic… A Window into the World of Equine Medicine

Brooke Cairo Clinic welcomed a visit from the International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) at Badr University, giving the students an opportunity to learn more about equine medicine and the work carried out at the clinic.

During the visit, the students learned about how veterinarians check vital signs in horses, including what is considered normal and what may indicate a health problem.

They were also introduced to some of the common diseases and health conditions affecting horses and how they can be related, including piroplasmosis, tetanus, colic, laminitis, and lameness, as well as the general approach to assessing lameness.

The session also covered how a horse’s age can be estimated by examining its teeth, along with the basic principles of dealing with different types of wounds and some common dental problems in horses.

The visit offered the students a closer look at equine veterinary care and an opportunity to connect what they learn during their studies with the work carried out in a veterinary clinic.

تكريم جمعية مستشفى بروك الخيري لعلاج الحيوان بمحافظة كفر الشيخ

في إطار تقدير الجهود المبذولة للنهوض بالرفق بحيوانات الفصيلة الخيلية بمحافظة كفر الشيخ على مدار السنوات الماضية، أقيم حفل لتكريم جمعية مستشفى بروك الخيري لعلاج الحيوان، تقديراً لما قدمته من جهود.

وجاء التكريم بدعوة من السيد الدكتور نشأت عبد الباري، نقيب الأطباء البيطريين بكفر الشيخ ، والسيد الدكتور إيهاب شكري، وكيل وزارة الطب البيطري بمحافظة كفر الشيخ.

وشهد حفل التكريم حضور الدكتور مصطفى محجوب من عيادة بروك بالإسكندرية، في مناسبة تعكس التقدير للجهود المستمرة في مجال رعاية الحيوانات والارتقاء بسبل الرفق بها.





Honouring Brooke Hospital for Animals in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate

As part of recognising the efforts made to promote animal welfare for equines in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate over the past years, a ceremony was held to honour Brooke Hospital for Animals in recognition of its efforts.

The ceremony was held following an invitation from Dr. Nashaat Abdel Bari, Head of the Kafr El-Sheikh Veterinary Medical Association, and Dr. Ehab Shokry, Director of the Veterinary Medicine Directorate in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Mostafa Mahgoub from Brooke Alexandria Clinic, in an occasion that reflects the appreciation of continued efforts in animal care and promoting animal welfare.

الرعاية لا تتوقف عند أبواب العيادة.. بل تصل إلى حيث توجد الحيوانات.

ضمن جولات عيادات بروك المتنقلة بإدفو ، واصل فريق بروك تقديم الرعاية البيطرية والتوعية للحيوانات العاملة وأصحابها في عدد من القرى.

تمت زيارة أربع قرى و هم الخوى و الشبيكة و المحاميد والعضايمة، وتم استقبال 77 حالة وتنفيذ 105 إجراءات علاجية، إلى جانب توعية 56 مالك حيوان حول رعاية حيواناتهم والاهتمام بصحتها.

ولا تقتصر هذه الجولات على تقديم العلاج فقط، فكل زيارة تمثل فرصة للوصول إلى أصحاب الحيوانات و مشاركة المعلومات التي تساعدهم على تقديم رعاية أفضل لحيواناتهم.

وراء كل رقم حيوان يعتمد على هذه الرعاية ليواصل عمله بشكل أفضل و مالك يحتاج إلى المعرفة.





Veterinary care does not stop at the clinic doors… it reaches the animals wherever they are.

As part of the Brooke Edfu Mobile Clinics, the Brooke team continued providing veterinary care and raising awareness among working animals and their owners in several villages.

Four villages were visited: Al Khuwi , Al-Shabika, Al-Mahamid and Al-Adayma, where 77 cases were received and 105 treatment procedures were carried out. The team also provided awareness sessions for 56 animal owners on how to care for their animals and maintain their health.

These rounds are not only about providing treatment. Every visit is also an opportunity to reach animal owners and share information that can help them provide better care for their animals.

Behind every number is an animal that depends on this care to continue working in better health, and an owner who needs the right knowledge.

من التعرف على عمل بروك… إلى فحص الحصان والتعامل معه

بدأت زيارة الجمعية الدولية لطلاب الطب البيطري (IVSA) بجامعة دمنهور إلى عيادة مستشفى بروك بالقاهرة بالتعرف على طبيعة عمل مستشفى بروك ودور الأطباء البيطريين في مجال الفصيلة الخيلية، قبل أن ينتقل الطلبة إلى الجانب العملي من الزيارة.

تعرف الطلبة على أساسيات الاقتراب من الخيول والتعامل معها بطريقة آمنة، ثم تعرفوا على خطوات الفحص الإكلينيكي، إلى جانب شرح عدد من أشهر المشكلات والأمراض التي قد تصيب الخيول، ومنها الحمرة والمغص والتيتانوس.

ولم تتوقف الزيارة عند الشرح النظري، حيث تم إجراء أشعة سينية لحالة ، و تم إستخدامها لشرح ما يظهر في الأشعة وكيف يمكن أن تساعد الطبيب البيطري في فهم حالة الحيوان.

كانت فرصة للطلبة لربط ما يتعلمونه في الدراسة بالممارسة العملية، والتعرف عن قرب على جانب من العمل البيطري مع الخيول.





From learning about Brooke’s work… to examining and handling a horse

The visit of the International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) at Damanhour University to Brooke Hospital for Animals’ Cairo Clinic began with an introduction to Brooke’s work and the role of veterinarians in working with equines, before moving on to the practical side of the visit.

The students learned the basics of approaching and handling horses safely, followed by an introduction to the main steps of a clinical examination. They also learned about some of the common diseases and health problems that can affect horses, including laminitis, colic, and tetanus.

The visit went beyond the theory, as an X-ray was taken for a veterinary case and used to explain what can be seen in an X-ray and how it can help the veterinarian understand the animal’s condition.

It was an opportunity for the students to connect what they learn in their studies with practical experience and to get a closer look at veterinary work with horses.

في إطار التعاون بين جمعية مستشفى بروك الخيري لعلاج الحيوان ومديرية التربية والتعليم بمحافظة مطروح، تم توقيع بروتوكول تعاون بهدف دعم التوعية برعاية الحيوانات لدى طلاب المدارس في مختلف أنحاء المحافظة.

وقد تم توقيع البروتوكول من جانب جمعية مستشفى بروك الخيري لعلاج الحيوان بواسطة د. محمد فوزي، مدير عيادة بروك بمطروح، ومن جانب مديرية التربية والتعليم بواسطة المهندس محمد فؤاد الرشيدي، وكيل وزارة التربية والتعليم بمحافظة مطروح، وبحضور الأستاذ إيهاب أنور، مدير عام التعليم العام.

ويشمل التعاون تنفيذ أنشطة توعوية داخل المدارس، خاصة في المناطق الصحراوية والنائية، لتعريف الطلاب بكيفية التعامل السليم مع الحيوانات، وأهمية رعايتها، والتوعية بالأمراض المشتركة بين الإنسان والحيوان.

كما ستقوم فرق بروك بزيارة المدارس خلال العام الدراسي الجديد لتقديم محاضرات توعوية مبسطة، وعروض للعرائس، ومسابقات للطلاب، إلى جانب تنظيم معسكرات صيفية وأنشطة تعليمية تفاعلية أخرى.

ومن خلال هذا التعاون، ستعمل بروك ومديرية التربية والتعليم بمطروح معًا على تعزيز وعي الطلاب بأهمية رعاية الحيوانات وحمايتها، والوقاية من الأمراض المشتركة بين الإنسان والحيوان.

As part of the cooperation between Brooke Hospital for Animals and the Matrouh Directorate of Education, a cooperation protocol has been signed to support animal welfare awareness among school students across the governorate.

The protocol was signed on behalf of Brooke Hospital for Animals by Dr Mohamed Fawzy, Manager of Brooke Clinic in Matrouh, and on behalf of the Matrouh Directorate of Education by Eng. Mohamed Fouad El-Rashidy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education in Matrouh Governorate, in the presence of Mr Ehab Anwar, General Manager of General Education.

The cooperation will include awareness activities in schools, especially in desert and remote areas, to help students learn how to treat animals properly, understand the importance of caring for them, and learn about diseases shared between humans and animals.

Brooke teams will visit schools during the new school year to provide simple awareness talks, puppet shows, and student competitions, in addition to summer camps and other interactive educational activities.

Through this cooperation, Brooke and the Matrouh Directorate of Education will work together to raise students’ awareness of the importance of caring for and protecting animals, and preventing diseases shared between humans and animals.

من عيادة بروك بالإسكندرية إلى قرية إدكو

واصلت العيادة المتنقلة من عيادة بروك بالإسكندرية عملها للوصول إلى الحيوانات العاملة وتقديم الرعاية البيطرية لها في أماكن وجودها.

وخلال الزيارة إلى قرية إدكو، تم فحص وعلاج 36 حالة، ضمن جهود بروك المستمرة لتوفير الرعاية البيطرية للحيوانات العاملة .

The mobile clinic from Brooke Alexandria Clinic continued its work to reach working animals and provide them with veterinary care where they are.

During the visit to Edko Village, 36 cases were examined and treated, as part of Brooke’s ongoing efforts to provide veterinary care for working animals.

الإجهاد الحراري.. خطر يمكن الوقاية منه

مع ارتفاع درجات الحرارة، قد تتعرض الخيول والحمير والبغال العاملة للإجهاد الحراري، خاصةً مع العمل لفترات طويلة وقلة الماء والراحة والظل.

توفير الماء، والراحة في أماكن مظللة، والتغذية الجيدة، يساعد على حماية الحيوانات العاملة من الإجهاد الحراري والحفاظ على صحتها.





Heat Stress.. A Risk We Can Prevent

As temperatures rise, working horses, donkeys and mules may be at risk of heat stress, especially when working for long periods without enough water, rest or shade.

Providing water, rest in shaded areas and good nutrition helps protect working equines from heat stress and keep them healthy.

في إطار التعاون مع مديرية الطب البيطري، تواصل جمعية مستشفى بروك الخيري لعلاج الحيوان دعمها لتطوير منظومة رعاية الخيول بمنطقة أهرامات الجيزة، من خلال المشاركة في أعمال ترقيم وتسجيل الخيول باستخدام الشرائح الإلكترونية (الميكروشيب).

وخلال هذه الأعمال، تم تركيب الشرائح الإلكترونية لـ 120 حصانًا، إلى جانب تقديم التطعيمات اللازمة ضد فيروس الإنفلونزا (Influenza Virus) وفيروس الهربس (Herpes Virus) لجميع الخيول التي تم ترقيمها.

وتأتي هذه الجهود في إطار دعم الرعاية الصحية والوقائية للخيول العاملة، وتعزيز منظومة حمايتها ورعايتها في منطقة الأهرامات.





As part of our cooperation with the Veterinary Medicine Directorate, Brooke Hospital for Animals continues to support the development of the equine care system in the Giza Pyramids area through participating in the identification and registration of horses using electronic microchips.

As part of these efforts, 120 horses were microchipped, and all identified horses received vaccinations against Influenza Virus and Herpes Virus.

These efforts contribute to strengthening preventive healthcare and supporting the protection and care of working horses in the Pyramids area.
