The Grand Imam to the EU Special Representative for Human Rights:
Aggression on Gaza Revealed the Discrimination between the Rights to Life of Eastern Humans and their Western Counterparts
More than 70 Thousands Killed with no Guilt, Except That They Wanted to Live in Their Homeland and Rejected Displacement Attempts
Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, received, at al-Azhar Headquarters, Ms. Kajsa Ollongren, the EU Special Representative for Human Rights. The two parties discussed ways of enhancing joint cooperation.
His Eminence said that al-Azhar has an clear stance regarding the issue of human rights, stating that: “I am among those who believe that there is a great deal of human rights agreed upon between the East and the West, and all of us should utilize that as basics for human rights; however, some matters remain as rights in the West, yet, we do not consider them as such in the East, since they contradict the common sense and clash with the religious and moral values, which are considered as the main components and authentic reference for peoples in the East”.
Further, the Grand Imam affirmed al-Azhar’s commitment to preserving rights and freedoms, which is manifested in al-Azhar Document on Fundamental Freedoms, which asserted that human dignity is not a grant to be given, but an undeniable inherent right. Simultaneously, His Eminence emphasized the Eastern peoples’ rejection of the attempts to impose the ethics of the Western human rights organization on the Easterners, under the pretext of freedoms. He underlined that the West should understand that these matters are closely linked to the character, identity, culture, and, primarily, the religious teachings and values of the Eastern person.
In the same vein, the Grand Imam explained that family in the Eastern culture is not taken as a civil project, but rather governed by rigorous religious rules precisely formulated to prevent tampering with it and its components. In the forefront of these components is maintaining women’s status so as not to be left to the manipulation of customs, traditions, and modern developments in societies.
Moreover, His Eminence underlined that the aggression on Gaza exposed the discrimination between the rights to life of the Eastern humans and their counterparts, pointing out that the killing of more than 70 thousand people with no guilt except that they aspired to live peacefully in their homeland and their refusal to displace them, revealed the West’s double standards. The Grand Imam stressed that the occupying entity could not have done that without the support of the political regimes in some of the Western countries.
His Eminence, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, stated: “I hope to live to see the European Union proceeds from an established and unified issue, which is the equality of Eastern people with Western ones in the right to live equally. When human rights are violated in the West, there are firm stances and laws, but when this happens in the East, the perspective and laws change, and violations are overlooked”.

President of Al-Azhar Graduates from Madrid Conference: Al-Azhar Adopts Global Discourse that Anchors Safe Intellectual Awareness and Protects Human Dignity
We Need to Adopt a Global Awareness of Values that Places Humanity above all Affiliations
Prof. Abbas Shuman, President of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates and Secretary General of al-Azhar Council of Senior Scholars, affirmed that the message of al-Azhar ash-Sharif, under the leadership of His Eminence the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, is based on elevating the value of human beings, supporting the paths of global peace, and strengthening bridges of understanding between followers of religions. He noted that Islam came bearing a message of mercy and respect for human diversity, and that all divine religions converged on establishing the principle of coexistence and rejecting violence.
This is part of Shuman’s speech delivered at the conference held by the Islamic Cultural Center in the Spanish Capital (Madrid), entitled “The Role of Religious Institutions in Creating Safe Awareness: Al-Azhar ash-Sharif as a Model,” which aims to re-examine religious discourse in confronting extremism and shielding societies against the dangers of violence and hatred.
In addition, Shuman indicated that the conference represents an important platform for presenting the true image of Islam as a religion that establishes values of love and fraternity. He explained that the sanctity of human blood is established firmly by both intuition and creed, and that respecting the specificities of others is an authentic religious principle inseparable from the purposes of nations' survival and societies' stability. He cited several Quranic verses that affirmed the unity of human origin and the necessity of mutual acquaintance and communication, clarifying that when the Quranic discourse addresses ‘people,’ it addresses them on the basis of their shared humanity, not on the basis of differences in their races or religions.
He also emphasized that civilizations have never risen through discrimination or exclusion, but rather were established on openness and tolerance, and providing spaces for convergence between cultures.
He explained that al-Azhar, throughout its long history, has provided a practical model for coexistence, manifested in its major initiatives such as the House of the Egyptian Family, the Document on Human Fraternity, the East-West Dialogue, and the Peacemakers Initiative, which carried al-Azhar’s messages to the world.
Furthermore, he pointed out that extremism and racism are not products of religions, but rather social diseases that arise when materialism overwhelms values. He affirmed that justice in laws and elevating the value of human beings are the true foundation for establishing tolerance and coexistence. He noted the danger of employing technology without a value system, as it has become one of the greatest tools for shaping awareness, and its use away from ethics may lead to tearing apart the fabric of societies instead of building it.
He confirmed that religion has never been a source of conflict in its history, but rather was misused when justice was absent and the compass of values deviated. He called for returning religion to its true role in bringing people closer to Allah and to each other, and building their nations.
He concluded his speech by saying that the Madrid Conference is a starting point toward reshaping global awareness based on civilizational fairness. He clarified that ‘peace’ is no longer an option, but a necessity for humanity's survival, and that bitter experiences have proven that excluding the other feeds extremism, while dialogue and integration open the doors to civilizational stability.
Finally, he called for the adoption of a global awareness of values that places humanity above all affiliations, restores religion's role in promoting peace and preserving human dignity, and confronts hate speech in all its forms.

The Zakat and Charities Fund, under the supervision of His Eminence Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar and Chairman of the Fund’s Board of Trustees, announced the completion of delivering all humanitarian aid and supplies included in the first batch of the twelfth relief convoy, which arrived in the Gaza Strip via Rafah Border Crossing, amid the severe cold wave hitting the Strip.
The Fund explained that the first batch of the convoy included tens of thousands of equipped tents, which were fully delivered and set up for the affected families in the disaster-stricken areas, after their homes were destroyed by the brutal Zionist aggression. These tents have provided them with safe shelter to protect them from the harsh weather and cold nights.
Further, the Fund added that the work teams inside the Gaza Strip furnished the tents and equipped them with basic living necessities, including blankets, covers, food supplies, and clean water, in addition to medical and therapeutic supplies, infant formula, diapers, and personal care materials, all aiming at providing immediate humanitarian support for the families who have lost the basic means of life.
The implementation of the first batch of the twelfth convoy comes as part of the efforts of the global campaign to support the people of Gaza titled "Rescue Gaza" launched by His Eminence the Grand Imam of al-Azhar under the slogan: "Strive with your wealth... and support Palestine”. The campaign has witnessed support and contributions from more than 85 countries worldwide, in response to the urgent needs of the Palestinian people, amid the severe conditions they are suffering.
The Zakat and Charities Fund reaffirmed its commitment to continue the provision of humanitarian support to our fellow people in the Gaza Strip, and to exert all possible efforts to alleviate their suffering and provide the essential needs that preserve their dignity and the minimum requirements for life under the current circumstances.

The Grand Imam Receives the Chadian Minister of Higher Education to Discuss Enhancing Preaching and Academic Cooperation

His Eminence the Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, met with Mr. Tom Erdemi, Chad’s Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Vocational Training, to discuss ways to strengthen joint academic and preaching cooperation.
During the meeting, the Grand Imam affirmed that al-Azhar values its longstanding ties with Chad. He noted that al-Azhar currently hosts around 500 Chadian students across various educational levels and disciplines, including Islamic and Arabic studies, as well as medicine, pharmacy, engineering, science, and agriculture. He added that al-Azhar provides 50 fully funded scholarships for Chadian students each year. The Grand Imam also highlighted that al-Azhar oversees three institutes in Chad, where 57 Azhari envoys and teachers are serving. In addition, there are two newly established Arabic language centers designed to support Chadian students in learning the language of the Holy Quran.
His Eminence affirmed al-Azhar’s readiness to increase the number of scholarships available to Chadian students, to host new delegations of imams for training at Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams and Preachers, and to further develop their preaching skills in countering the arguments of extremist groups seeking to distort the image of Islam—particularly on issues of coexistence, women’s rights in Islam, and other contemporary concerns.
For his part, the Chadian Minister of Higher Education expressed his pleasure at meeting His Eminence the Grand Imam and conveyed the pride of the Chadian people in al-Azhar, both as a religious authority and a distinguished academic institution. He affirmed his country’s deep appreciation for the significant support al-Azhar provides to the peoples of the African continent—especially Chad—through comprehensive scholarships, the presence of Azhari envoys who spread knowledge and the moderate Azhari approach, the training offered to Chadian imams and preachers, as well as the medical and preaching convoys sent by al-Azhar in support of the Chadian people.

During His Lecture at Darunnajah University in Indonesia:
Prof. Abbas Shouman: Nations’ Progress Depends on Their Scientific Advancement & True Knowledge is the Shield against Mental manipulation
Prof. Abbas Shouman, President of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates and Secretary General of al-Azhar Council of Senior Scholars, gave a lecture at the University of Darunnajah in Jakarta, Indonesia. The lecture came under the title of: “True Knowledge Protects against Mental Manipulation”, and addressed the importance of seeking knowledge and verifying its sources to counter the misconceptions sometimes promoted in the name of enlightenment.
During the lecture, Prof. Shouman explained that nations’ progress depends on their scientific advancement and that knowledge is the only way to bring people from the darkness of ignorance into the light of knowledge and guidance, as Allah Almighty says: “A Book We have revealed to you that you may bring forth mankind from darkness into light” [Q:14:1]. His Eminence added that spreading true knowledge protects society from deception and mental fraud, which some may practice to achieve mischievous targets.
Further, Prof. Shouman addressed some issues concerning women, pointing out that there are claims propagated on the injustice women suffer concerning their inheritance. His Eminence affirmed that such allegations are false and are not based on Islamic legal facts. He clarified that women receive half of what men receive only in specific cases, such as a daughter with a son, a son’s daughter with a son’s son, a full sister with a full brother, a paternal sister with a paternal brother, taking into account the financial burdens borne by each party, as men are expected to bear marriage expenses and family maintenance.
His Eminence noted that Islamic law sometimes grants women more rights than men, illustrating this with examples, and that in certain cases women inherit the entire estate while men inherit nothing.
Prof. Shouman emphasized that understanding the legal details requires knowledge and precise study to expose the misconceptions spread concerning women rights.
At the lecture’s conclusion, Prof. Shouman stressed the necessity of seeking knowledge from authentic sources, underlining that this is the only way to protect oneself and society from deception, and to achieve nations' progress and elevation.

Al-Azhar Condemns the Burning of a Mosque in the West Bank… It Calls for Urgent Action to Stop the Terrorism of the Occupation Gangs

Al-Azhar strongly condemns the heinous terrorist crime committed by the gangs of the Zionist occupation in burning al-Hajjah Hamida Mosque in the West Bank. Such an act reflects the brutal conduct of these extremists, their disregard for the sanctity of places of worship, and their hateful extremism toward everything Islamic.
Likewise, al-Azhar affirms that violating mosques and attacking their sanctity is a heinous crime that targets not only places of worship but also the feelings of Muslims and believers of all faiths around the world. It further represents a blatant breach of all religious teachings, moral values, and international norms and laws. It reflects the occupation’s persistent policies and hateful approach aimed at Judaizing all of Palestine and altering its religious and historical character.
Moreover, al-Azhar warns of the danger posed by the continuation of this terrorist behavior, which seeks to impose a fait accompli through force and intimidation under the protection of the occupation forces. It also calls on the international community, UN institutions, and all relevant bodies to assume their legal and moral responsibilities, take serious and urgent measures to put an end to these crimes, hold the perpetrators accountable, and halt the ongoing state of impunity enjoyed by the settlers and the occupation forces.

Al-Azhar condemns the horrific bombing inside a mosque at a school complex in Jakarta, Indonesia, during Friday prayers, which injured dozens of students.
Likewise, al-Azhar affirms that targeting innocent people who are safe in mosques while performing their religious rituals is a crime against humanity. It is a blatant attack on the moral values meant to preserve the human soul and protect societies from chaos and destruction. It shows that the perpetrators of this crime have rejected all religious teachings and denied fundamental human and moral values.
Furthermore, al-Azhar expresses full solidarity with the government and people of the Republic of Indonesia, praying to Almighty Allah to grant the injured a speedy recovery and to protect the Indonesian people, as well as the broader Muslim community, from all harm and misfortune.

President of Al-Azhar University and Vice President of Al-Azhar Graduates Addresses International Students: “Those Who Choose Knowledge Pursue an Honorable and Lofty Goal”
President of Al-Azhar University to International Students: Every Branch of Knowledge that Leads to Awareness and Fear for Allah is Praiseworthy in Islam

Prof. Salama Dawood, President of al-Azhar University and Vice President of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates, affirmed that al-Azhar University warmly welcomes international students and opens its doors to them as seekers of knowledge who benefit from al-Azhar’s curricula and are nurtured by its message of moderation. He prayed that Allah bless their pursuit of knowledge and guide them to be bearers of integrity and torches of light through which al-Azhar continues to illuminate the world.
Additionally, the President of al-Azhar University, during a ceremony honoring outstanding international students in al-Azhar’s pre-university stages, expressed his great joy at meeting these seekers of knowledge. He emphasized that those who choose the path of knowledge pursue an honorable and lofty goal, for knowledge is the noble message through which nations are built and trusts are preserved. He further explained that when Allah Almighty says, “Say: ‘Are those who know equal with those who do not know?’” [Q. 39:9], He highlights the dignity and exalted status of knowledge in Islam without restricting it to any particular field. Every branch of knowledge that leads to awareness and reverence for Allah is praiseworthy in Islam—whether it belongs to the sciences of religion or to the sciences of the universe and nature.
He added that the Holy Quran referred to the comprehensiveness of knowledge and the diversity of its fields; Allah Almighty says, “Have you not seen that God sends down water from the heaven, wherewith We bring forth fruits of diverse hues.” — a reference to plant scientists. He also says, “And in the mountains are streaks white and red, of diverse hues, and [others] pitch-black?” [Q. 35:27], a reference to geologists; and His saying, “And of humans and beasts and cattle, there are diverse hues likewise,” a reference to animal and human scientists. Then He concluded by saying, “Indeed, only those of God’s servants who have knowledge fear Him.” [Q. 35:28], confirming that knowledge leads to fear (of Allah), and fear is the result of knowledge.
The President of the University concluded his speech by praying for the students’ success and asking Allah to make their future better than their past. Notably, he prayed to Allah to guide them to be enlightened models representing al-Azhar ash-Sharif in their homelands and to spread its message based on knowledge, moderation, mercy, and peace.
It is worth mentioning that Al-Azhar Conference Center witnessed a major celebration honoring outstanding international students in the pre-university stages, attended by some Azhari scholars and leaders. The event included Quran recitation, chanting, and speeches delivered in several languages, through which the students expressed their appreciation for al-Azhar and its role in supporting their academic and educational development. The celebration concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to the honorees in recognition of their excellence, accompanied by sincere wishes for their continued success and distinction.
