Egypt Hosts the 16th Ship for World Youth Global Assembly with 300 Participants from 31 Countries
Cairo, Egypt — November 2025
Egypt hosted the 16th Global Assembly of the Ship for World Youth (SWY) Program, welcoming 300 alumni from 31 countries, including 255 international participants, for a week of leadership exchange, cultural dialogue, and community engagement.
The assembly was held under the honorary sponsorship of H.E. Professor Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports. It was fully organized through the voluntary efforts of Egyptian alumni of the SWY Program, with logistical support from the Ministry of Youth & Sports, without burdening the government with any costs.
SWY is a leading international youth leadership development program organized by the Cabinet Office of Japan since 1988. The program gathers over 200 youth from more than 10 countries each year on a cruise ship sailing through a journey to foster partnerships, cooperation, cultural diversity, and youth exchange.
High-level attendees included representatives of the Cabinet Office of Japan, diplomatic officials from the Japanese embassy to Egypt, and other diplomats from participating countries.
Participants engaged in activities and visits across Cairo and Alexandria, as well as social activities at the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, the Egyptian Red Crescent, the Egyptian Food Bank, the Egyptian Clothing Bank, and the Ahl Masr Foundation. They also explored 5,000 years of Egyptian civilization, from ancient to Islamic heritage, through curated cultural programs.
This year marks the second time Egypt has hosted the Global Assembly, reflecting the country’s long-standing relationship with Japan at both the exchange and diplomatic levels.
This was also demonstrated by Egypt's involvement in the SWY Program since 1990. Over the years, Egypt has delegated more than 200 youth to the program, strengthening cultural dialogue and global cooperation.
Hatem Raouf, Head of the Organizing Committee, said: “It is a great honor for us as Egyptian participants to welcome our colleagues from around the world. As Egyptians, we are always keen to present our country to the world—its rich culture, its deep history, and its modern achievements across all fields.”
The assembly concluded with wishes of safe travel for departing participants, and best wishes for those continuing their journey to Luxor and Aswan as part of an optional post-program tour.
