YOUTH ACTION FOR PROGRESS: South Sudan Youth Union in Egypt 'Spring Cleaning.'
Dear esteemed members of the Youth Fraternity,
The leadership of the South Sudan Youth Union in Egypt and the Middle East, *under the guidance of Mr. Michael Serfino Loro and Deputy Mr. Deng Machar,* has been formally recognized by the authorities responsible for South Sudanese citizens in Egypt, including community leadership and the embassy.
We acknowledge that our prolonged silence has led to misunderstandings, misjudgments, and indecisiveness among our youth. Our approach, since the inception of our leadership under Yak Deng Yak, has been centered around two vital national concepts: UNITY and YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.
As you may recall, our mandates, as outlined by the former National Youth Union President, Mr. Gola, included:
- Uniting the youth
- Drafting Internal Regulations
- Sending delegates to the national youth union convention
- Conducting free and fair elections in accordance with approved internal regulations
We have successfully accomplished all tasks except the last mandate. Our efforts have been focused on establishing a robust youth leadership founded on competence and a desire for growth and development.
In preparation for conducting free and fair elections, we:
1. Consulted with the embassy, particularly the consular office, and received commendation for our work.
2. Met with the South Sudanese Community Leadership in Egypt to ensure inclusivity.
3. Facilitated Yak Deng Yak's transition to accommodate Deng Machar, promoting unity among our ranks.
Regrettably, Deng Machar's actions have been detrimental to our unity. He deceived Chairman Taban Paride, misusing funds from the Bhar El Ghazal Women Leadership. It is imperative to recognize that Deng Machar's intentions are self-serving, prioritizing power over youth progress and unity.
In response, we engaged with the embassy and community leadership to address the breached arrangements. We urged Chairman Taban to reconsider his position, and the outcomes were:
1. Our prolonged engagement with these institutions explains our recent silence.
2. The embassy and community leadership endorsed our initial arrangements for resolving youth differences.
3. Chairman Taban acknowledged appointing Deng Machar without prior knowledge of our efforts.
As approved by the concerned leadership, we are resuming our duties to fulfill our remaining mandate under Mr. Michael Serfino Loro. We invite you to review the attached document, showcasing our community leadership's commitment to empowering youth in Egypt.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Best regards,
Information and Communication Secretariat,
South Sudan Youth Union in Egypt and Middle East.
