🌍 What if the best way to travel wasn't by plane... but through people?

Last week, our community took a journey to Northern Italy through the stories of Alice and Carlotta.

Together, we discovered traditions, regional identities, food, gestures, and all those little details that rarely appear in travel guides—but make a place truly come alive.

And that's the magic of Culture Connect.

It isn't about becoming an expert on another country.

It's about discovering the people behind the culture, asking questions, sharing perspectives, and realizing that we often have much more in common than we first imagine.

✨ Fun fact: Research has shown that meaningful interactions with people from different cultures help reduce stereotypes and build empathy. Sometimes, one conversation can change the way we see the world.

A heartfelt thank you to Alice and Carlotta for opening a window into their culture, and to everyone who joined with curiosity, kindness, and an open mind. 🤍

📷 Who says a Photo Walk has to involve walking?

This summer, the heat has kept our Photo Walk community from exploring the streets together—but not from exploring the world around us.

Every two weeks, we invite our members to pick up their camera, stay close to home, and see the ordinary through a different lens.

Our first challenge was Gratefulness: capturing something that brings joy, keeps us going, or simply makes us smile.

This time, the theme is Patterns.

Brick walls, leaves, fabrics, reflections, shadows... Our brains often overlook the little details that surround us every day. Photography invites us to pause, look closer, and discover beauty where we least expect it.

✨ Fun fact: The more we train ourselves to observe our surroundings, the more details our brains begin to notice. Photography isn't just about taking pictures—it's about learning to see.

Because sometimes, changing your perspective is the greatest journey of all. 🤍

✍️ Writing is more than putting words on paper.

It gives us the chance to slow down, make sense of our thoughts and express what we sometimes struggle to say out loud. Along the way, it can reduce stress, boost creativity and help us communicate more clearly. Sometimes, all it takes is a blank page to untangle a busy mind.

At our latest Arabic Writing Club, participants explored a simple yet inspiring challenge: one colour, one story.

Using collages built around a single colour, they discovered how one image can spark an idea, a memory or an entirely new story.

At Bab, our writing clubs are open to everyone. Bring your curiosity, and we'll provide the space to explore it. 🤍

Our schedule is a little lighter than usual this week, as some of our wonderful volunteers are enjoying a well-deserved summer break. ☀️

At Bab, we believe that people are the reason, and activities are simply the excuse. Every gathering is an opportunity to meet someone new, learn something unexpected, or simply enjoy a moment together.

🌍 Culture Connect is looking for its next storyteller.

At Bab, we have already travelled to Mexico, Spain, Peru, and the Philippines — without leaving Maadi.

Each session, someone opened a window into their world and let us step through it, even just for a few hours.

Now we are wondering: where should we go next?

If you carry a culture, a country, a story — and you would love to share it with a curious, warm, and engaged community — we would love to hear from you. 🤍

It does not have to be perfect.
It does not have to be a formal presentation.
It just has to be yours.

Food, language, traditions, music, history, everyday life — anything that makes your culture feel alive to you is worth sharing with us.

This is Dabke — a traditional Lebanese folk dance that's equal parts rhythm, energy, and pure joy. And yes... it's probably harder than it looks. 😄

Every month, Nour, one of Bab's wonderful volunteers, opens the dance floor and shares his passion with anyone willing to give it a try.

No experience needed.
No perfect coordination required.
Just bring your curiosity, a comfortable pair of shoes, and the willingness to laugh, move, and enjoy the moment together.
