Dette er et så viktig steg i riktig retning for dyrevelferd i Gambia, og vi er så glade for denne nyheten.
For en liten tid tilbake kom våre kjære venner i The Gambia Horse & Trust over et svært mishandlet esel.
“Man jailed for six months for abusing his donkey,” Jambarr.
A Case That Shook The Gambia
This week, a case in The Gambia sparked public shock and serious reflection after a man was convicted and sentenced to prison for animal cruelty involving a donkey.
According to information shared by recognised animal-welfare groups, the donkey, known as Jambarr, suffered abuse that was reported to the authorities. The case was investigated, taken to court, and the accused pleaded guilty to charges of animal cruelty.
A Gambian court subsequently sentenced the man to six months in prison, marking a rare but important moment of accountability for the abuse of a working animal.
Animal-welfare advocates welcomed the ruling, describing it as justice served and a strong reminder that cruelty toward animals is a crime under Gambian law. For many, Jambarr became a symbol of countless animals who work daily in silence — transporting goods, supporting families, and serving communities without protection or a voice.
This case sends a clear message:
Animal abuse is not acceptable.
The law applies, even in cases many prefer to ignore.
Compassion and accountability must go hand in hand.
Justice for Jambarr is not just about one donkey — it is about setting a precedent and protecting animals that are part of everyday life in The Gambia.
