📌 Be prepared: crisis information in English

Different crisis situations can happen unexpectedly – for example because of severe weather, technical problems or other events. It is good to know what to do and where to find reliable information.

Tartu City’s crisis information brochure is now available in English. It gives practical advice on how to prepare for crisis situations, what to keep at home, and where to turn if you need help.

👉 Read the brochure:https://tartu.ee/sites/default/files/uploads/tartu_kriisiinfo_web_ENG.pdf

On Wednesday, 10 June, a nationwide test of the EE-ALARM public warning system will also take place. Between 15:00 and 15:10, sirens will be tested in larger settlements, and alerts will be sent through the Eesti app, the “Ole valmis!” app and ERR channels.

Use this day to take a few minutes and think through:
• What would you do during a longer power, water or communications outage?
• Where would you find reliable information?
• Where would you take shelter if needed?

🌿 Discover Ihaste this Saturday!

Last weekend, many of us enjoyed the lively and creative spirit of Karlova. This weekend, Tartu invites you to discover a very different kind of neighbourhood - Ihaste.

Ihaste is a green and peaceful garden district, surrounded by pine forest, private homes and quiet streets. Most of the time, its gardens and courtyards stay hidden behind fences - but this Saturday, some of them will open their gates to visitors.

☕ Ihaste home café and courtyard day
📅 Saturday, 30 May 2026
📍 Ihaste, Tartu

Local residents will open their gardens and courtyards to offer home cafés, yard sales, beautiful gardens, friendly conversations and maybe even some live music 🎶

It is a lovely opportunity to walk around Ihaste, taste something homemade, discover local finds and enjoy a relaxed spring day in one of Tartu’s greenest neighbourhoods.

🌿 Tartu Welcome Centre closes earlier this Friday

Please note that on Friday, 22 May, Tartu Welcome Centre will close at 15:00 due to the upcoming Pentecost / Suvistepüha weekend.

And speaking of the weekend - this is one of our favourite times of the year in Tartu, because Karlova Days are here! 💛

On Friday, 22 May, the creative KarlovARTS festival will take place from 15:00–18:00 at Salme 1a, bringing together schools, young artists, families and the Karlova community. Expect a lively fair, performances, student art and crafts, games, food, open school buildings - and a lovely reason to bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic.

On Saturday, Karlova will become even more special with the beloved Karlova home café day - when courtyards open up, neighbours welcome visitors, and the whole district feels like one big friendly family.

Karlova Days are a wonderful way to experience local community life in Tartu - warm, creative and full of character.

See you in Karlova! 🌿

Please note that Tartu Welcome Centre will be closed on Friday, 1 May due to Spring Day.

Spring is a great time to get involved in your local community 🌱

On 2 May, people across Estonia will once again take part in Teeme Ära / Let’s Do It! Day - a nationwide community action day that grew out of the famous 2008 clean-up campaign and has since become an annual tradition. What started in Estonia has also had a much wider impact: today, the Teeme Ära / Let’s Do It! initiative has reached more than 100 countries, inspiring similar community action days around the world. 🌍

If you would like to take part, you can browse the list or map of registered work bees and choose one that suits you best. You can search by location, type of work bee, date, and even the languages spoken by the organiser, which can make joining easier for international residents as well. Registration is simple and only requires your name and either a phone number or email address.

If you are based in Tartu, we have added a link in the comments to work bees currently looking for participants.

Whether it is cleaning up a neighbourhood, improving a shared garden, helping a community space, or joining another local initiative, it is a nice way to spend a Saturday, meet people, and do something meaningful together.
