My Unpopular Opinion!

Tonight, we had a lot of opinions where we picked sides. Some defended and some disagreed. 😄

The meeting was all about Unpopular Opinion and it turned out to be an eventful evening of speeches, quick thinking and few strong opinions.

4 prepared speeches and 2 of those are Ice breaker speeches. Thanks for your amazing speeches Matus, Oskar and Elisabet, Jordan who shared a special milestone for giving their first speech in the club.

We also had thoughtful evaluations, giving speakers feedback to help them grow and improve.

And on important supporting role as Timer is Eerik!

On the 2nd part of the meeting came the Table Topics a.k.a Impromptu speaking!

In the lightning 1st round volunteer speakers (members or guests) picked a side, to support or go against before discovering the opinion they had to defend. 2 speakers then battled it out at a time, while audience voted for the argument that convinced them.

The round 1 winners moved on to round 2, completely new statement and another choice to defend or argue against.

The result? Plenty of unexpected arguments, laughter, quick thinking and opinions we may or may not actually believe 🤔

However, the evening was fun not because of who’s having the right opinion. It’s about being able to think, listen, adapt and make your case.

To everyone who came, listen, spoke, evaluated, volunteered, voted and joined us, WE THANK YOU!

Share in the comments section, what’s your unpopular opinion????

Speak with your whole body

What happens when you give the same speech twice but change the way you use your body?

Our members recently took part in a members only hands-on workshop exploring how body language can make a speech clearer, more confident and more impactful.

We practiced:
✨ Standing with confidence
🎯 Moving with purpose
🙌 Using gestures to support the message
👀 Eye contact and facial expressions
⏸️ Using stillness and pauses for impact

One simple idea stuck with us:

Move → Plant → Speak

The goal isn’t to use more body language. It’s to use it intentionally so your movements, gestures and expressions support your message instead of distracting from it.

A big thank you to Ondrej who led the workshop and to everyone who participated, experimented and stepped outside their comfort zone.

Another great evening of learning by doing at Toastmasters Tallinn.

New month, New schedule!

Don't get left behind on what's happening! See below information.

September 3 - Toastmasters members-only workshop, where we focus on certain areas of communication or public speaking.

September 17 - Regular meeting, this time the theme/topic is Leisure. More info about the topic to be shared soon.

October 1 - Club Contest. We will hold Humorous speech & Table Topics. Participants for the contest are for members but guests are welcome to join us and observe.

Additional info will be shared soon. Keep on checking our socials.

As a side note, we are in the fast-paced of technology where AI can help us in almost everything, which is great and fun! AI can help us improve our writing but AI cannot help us HOW to speak. Good thing, Toastmasters is the environment where you can exactly hone that skill. 😉

Nobody nailed it on the first try. That was the point!

It was a fun, easy meeting we had at Toastmasters Tallinn!

At the beginning of the meeting, the host asked everyone as a warm up to think about something they’re good at today and remember their first attempt.

It was a reminder to ourselves that the version of us who wasn’t very good at something wasn’t a failure.

That version of us was learning.

Tonight’s theme, It’s an encouragement to give ourselves permission to be a beginner.

To Try it. Get it wrong. Learn. Adjust. Try again.

And honestly, that’s what Toastmasters is all about.

We also had amazing and inspiring speeches and evaluations from Elis, Ondrej, Eerik and Avo. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

Our Wheel of Excuses during Table topics gave everyone a chance to think on their feet, challenge some familiar excuses, and turn them into reasons to take action.

There were laughs, unexpected answers, a few brave first attempts and plenty of moments of learning along the way.

And perhaps the biggest takeaway from the evening:

You don’t have to be good to begin.
You have to begin to get good.

A big thank you to everyone who showed up, participated, volunteered, shared their stories and supported each other. 💙

Our first meeting back after summer break was filled with meaningful conversations, supportive feedback and a reminder that learning is most powerful when we put it into practice.

Our prepared speech introduced us to the Japanese word "Tsundoku", the habit of buying books and letting it pile up unread. It sparked an honest reflection on something many of us can relate to: consuming knowledge without always taking action.

Key take away: Learning alone is not enough. Growth happens when we apply what we learned. Like Nike's tag, just do it!

Thank you to everyone who attended, participated in Table Topics, gave evaluations and helped make our first meeting of the season engaging and welcoming.

Here's to season of building confidence by doing, finding our voices and turning learning into action.

See you at the next meeting!
