New data from the Baltic Deep Tech Report 2025 shows just how rapidly the region’s deep tech ecosystem is evolving.

🔹 Baltic deep tech startups have grown their enterprise value from €2.6B to €7.5B in four years.
🔹 Deep tech now accounts for nearly 50% of all startup funding in the Baltics.
🔹 Estonia leads the region with 56% of total deep tech funding and a strong position in defence and dual-use technologies.

💬 "Deep tech in Estonia is clearly on the rise. Nearly half of all startup investments now go to deep tech companies, an impressive achievement given their modest share of the overall startup landscape. It is clear that the Baltic region is only at the beginning of what we can achieve" noted Vaido Mikheim, Head of Startup Estonia.

The report was published by Iron Wolf Capital in collaboration with Startup Lithuania, WALLESS and Startup Estonia.

📊 The StartupBlink Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026 is out, and Estonia continues to rank among the world’s leading startup ecosystems.

🇪🇪 Estonia ranks 12th globally this year, slipping one position compared to last year. Still, this places Estonia 7th in Europe and makes it the highest-ranked startup ecosystem in the Baltics.

Considering Estonia’s size and population of less than 2 million people, this remains a remarkably strong result. Estonia’s startup ecosystem also recorded 8.8% annual growth.

The report highlights several key strengths of the Estonian ecosystem:

🔹 Estonia ranks #10 globally in the StartupBlink Innovators Business Environment Index
🔹 #5 globally in Ecosystem Maturity
🔹 #5 globally in Ecosystem Visibility
🔹 Fintech remains Estonia’s strongest sector ( #10 globally)

StartupBlink points to Estonia’s transparent business environment, low bureaucracy, and advanced digital infrastructure as key advantages enabling founders to build and scale quickly.

As Startup Estonia Managing Director Vaido Mikheim notes:
“The ecosystem has matured steadily: turnovers are growing, ex*****on culture is strong, and founders here know how to deliver.”

The report also highlights growing momentum in AI, deep tech, and defence tech - sectors where Estonian startups are increasingly building global relevance.

At the same time, one of Estonia’s key long-term challenges remains ecosystem balance and regional depth beyond Tallinn.

Tallinn ranks 53rd globally among startup cities and continues to be the strongest startup hub in Eastern EU member states. Tartu achieved impressive 18.5% growth, although intensified global competition pushed it to #421 globally.

Great to see Estonia’s ecosystem champions featured throughout the report as well - Wise, Bolt, Pipedrive, Veriff, Glia, and many others helping shape Estonia’s global startup story 🚀
