🎤 EDEN Porto AC 2026 Spotlight Speaker Announcement

We are excited to announce another featured speaker for the EDEN Annual Conference 2026 in Porto:

✨ Maxim Jean-Louis
President and Chief Executive Officer of Contact North | Contact Nord, Canada, and EDEN Digital Learning Europe Fellow.

💡 Spotlight title:
“Shaping AI, or Being Quietly Redesigned by It?”

In this thought-provoking spotlight session, Maxim Jean-Louis will challenge participants to rethink the questions we are currently asking about Artificial Intelligence in education.

As AI increasingly becomes part of the learning environment, the traditional relationship between teachers and students is evolving into something more complex. AI is no longer simply a tool — it learns, adapts, and subtly reshapes the way people think, act, and make decisions.

The session will explore critical questions surrounding human agency, dependency, and the invisible shifts taking place in education:
• What are we already letting go of without noticing?
• What becomes easier?
• What becomes unnecessary?
• What becomes invisible?

Rather than offering simple answers, this session invites reflection, dialogue, and critical engagement with the future of education in an AI-infused world.

🎤 EDEN Porto AC 2026 Keynote Speaker Announcement

We are pleased to announce another keynote speaker for the EDEN Annual Conference 2026 in Porto:

✨ Inge de Waard
Award-winning learning innovator, researcher, and activist, currently serving as AI & Learning Lead for Masters+ at InnoEnergy.

🧠 Keynote title:
“The quest for our own humanity in light of AI”

In her keynote, Inge de Waard will explore how Artificial Intelligence is reshaping education, research, work, and society — and why these rapid transformations require us to reconsider what it means to be human.

The presentation will examine the evolving role of universities in a world increasingly influenced by AI and automation, where intelligent systems can draft, assess, and design educational content, while students themselves turn to AI tools for independent learning. At the same time, the keynote raises important questions about human sense-making, ethical responsibility, inclusion, and the future of meaningful learning and work.

Drawing on her extensive international experience in AI-driven education, blended learning, and innovation ecosystems, Inge de Waard will discuss how universities can help cultivate uniquely human capacities such as judgment, ethical imagination, creativity, and responsibility for one another in an AI-infused world.

14/05/2026

As partners in the WINDEE project, we’re sharing insights from a recent assessment where WINDEE analysed 103 EdTech tools across 5 European countries.

The findings show promising progress — but also some important blind spots.

✅ 89% include socio-emotional features
✅ 77% are GDPR compliant
✅ 83% require active (not passive) use

But at the same time:
⚠️ Only 18% encourage breaks or healthy use
⚠️ Only 14% monitor for algorithmic bias
⚠️ Only 2% don’t collect personal data at all

What this tells us is simple: many of the digital tools students use every day are designed to maximise engagement — but very few are designed with digital wellbeing and healthy use in mind.

For schools and education leaders selecting digital platforms, these are critical questions to raise with vendors.

Not only “does it work?” — but also “does it know when to stop?”

What’s one feature you believe today’s EdTech tools are still missing?
