On August 29, a commemorative event was held at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Estonia, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine fallen in the struggle for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
In his speech during the event, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia, Maksym Kononenko, stated: 'The path of our soldiers from Ilovaisk lay through sunflower fields, where they fell due to the treachery and deceit of our enemy. Since then, the sunflower has become not only a symbol of their sacrifice but also a reminder that we must not relax, give up, or stop until we achieve complete and undeniable victory! And we will achieve it!"
Embassy employees and representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora participated in the event, wearing sunflower pins on their clothing or holding sunflower flowers in their hands.
All those present honored the memory of those who fell for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine with a moment of silence.
The State Flag of Ukraine at the Embassy building was lowered during the performance of the national anthem by opera singer Karina Amirkhanyan-Chervinko.
Father Roman, a priest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Tallinn, and Father Ivan, a priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, offered a prayer for the defenders of Ukraine fallen in the struggle for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
