On the morning of March 18th, something special was brewing at the stylish 111 Minna Gallery, just a short stroll from Moscone Center — the Nordic Breakfast at GDC 2025. And this year? It was completely sold out. Every chair filled, every waffle eaten, and every coffee cup doing overtime as the Nordic and Baltic game dev communities came together for two hours of meaningful chats, networking, and early-morning good vibes.
This year’s event was extra special for Estonia. For the first time ever, the breakfast was supported by EIS, helping to shine a brighter spotlight on our local studios and talent on the global stage. 🇪🇪
And making the morning even more memorable — the event was officially opened by Heidy Purga, Estonia’s Minister of Culture, marking a proud moment for our growing game dev scene. In her opening remarks, she highlighted the importance of creative industries and international collaboration, setting the tone for a morning full of great conversations and new connections.
🎮 One of the highlights of this year’s breakfast was a fast-paced game showcase, where three exciting titles — one each from Estonia, Finland, and Sweden — took the stage for a 5-minute pitch. Attendees got a glimpse into the future of Nordic gaming through fresh ideas, unique mechanics, and bold creative visions. Whether you were scouting for investment, inspiration, or just curious about what’s next, this was the place to discover it.
💬 And with the global game industry facing growing challenges — from market saturation and funding slowdowns to shifting player behaviors — this year’s high-level roundtable hit right at the heart of what matters. Key stakeholders from Estonia, Sweden, and Finland gathered to tackle a tough but timely question: How can game developers, publishers, and ecosystem enablers stay competitive and continue to grow in uncertain times?
The discussion explored how cross-border collaboration can drive innovation, resilience, and long-term success. Panelists shared best practices on building partnerships, accessing new markets, and leaning into regional strengths to navigate industry stagnation. It was a powerful reminder that while the challenges are real, so are the opportunities — especially when we work together.
From indie devs and publishers to investors, ecosystem builders, and curious newcomers, the room was buzzing with energy and optimism. It’s clear that the Nordic-Baltic game development community is stronger than ever — and Estonia is right there in the mix, leveling up with every event.
🙏 Huge thanks to our amazing partners who make this tradition possible — especially Neogames Finland, the umbrella organization for the Finnish game industry, and Dataspelsbranschen from Sweden, the voice of the Swedish game dev community. Your leadership and collaboration keep this event thriving and the community connected.
💙 Until next year – and hey, maybe we’ll need a bigger venue in 2026?
