Diarntaratch (or Trndez/Dyarnuntarach), celebrated annually on February 13-14, is a beloved Armenian feast marking the Presentation of the Lord to the Temple, 40 days after Christmas. It merges Christian tradition with ancient pagan fire-worship customs, where people jump over bonfires for blessing, fertility, and joy.
Significance: The name means "coming before God" or "the Lord's presentation to the temple". It represents the purification and the coming of spring.
Traditions: Bonfires are lit in churchyards and streets, with dancing and singing accompanying the event. Newlyweds or engaged couples often jump over the fire for good luck and prosperity.
Cultural Importance: It is a major, joyous holiday in Armenia, often celebrated with special, traditional, and sometimes, festive food like aghandz (roasted wheat) and pakhlava.
