VILCABAMBA SE MOVILIZA PARA PROTEGER SUS FUENTES HÍDRICAS Y EXIGIR SU CLASIFICACIÓN COMO SUELO DE PROTECCIÓN EN EL PUGS DE LOJA.
La Asamblea Local Ciudadana de Vilcabamba formaliza ante la Alcaldía un requerimiento legal e histórico sustentado en la zonificación técnica de la Bioregión de la Cuenca Alta del río Catamayo.
La iniciativa se ampara en el derecho constitucional a la participación, el control social y los derechos de la naturaleza, buscando precaver actividades extractivas incompatibles con el desarrollo del territorio.
Con el firme objetivo de salvaguardar el agua, la biodiversidad y el modelo económico de bienestar que caracteriza al sur del país, la Asamblea Local Ciudadana de Participación y Control Social de la Parroquia de Vilcabamba (ALPCCS-PV) presentará de manera oficial este miércoles 24 de junio de 2026, a las 11:00, un requerimiento técnico-jurídico formal ante la Alcaldesa del cantón Loja, Mgs. Diana Guayanay.
La petición formaliza que se inicie el proceso dentro del Plan de Uso y Gestión del Suelo (PUGS) del cantón Loja, a fin de catalogar definitivamente a la Bioregión de la Cuenca Alta del río Catamayo y al Valle de Vilcabamba como suelo rural de protección hídrica y de conservación de la biodiversidad.
"Vilcabamba es una Zona de Reserva Nacional desde 1969 y cuenta con el reconocimiento vigente de 'Rincón Mágico-Valle de la Longevidad'. Permitir actividades industriales o extractivas en estas zonas de recarga hídrica iría en contra de la planificación local, la legislación ecuatoriana y la jurisprudencia histórica ganada en Loja en el año 2011 a favor de los derechos del Río Vilcabamba", señalaron los delegados de la Asamblea.
La entrega formal del documento se realizará de manera pública en las instalaciones del Municipio de Loja con el acompañamiento de delegaciones comunitarias, organizaciones aliadas y defensores ambientales.

VILCABAMBA MOBILIZES TO PROTECT ITS WATER SOURCES AND DEMAND ITS CLASSIFICATION AS PROTECTED LAND IN THE LOJA PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT.
The Vilcabamba Local Citizens' Assembly has formally submitted a legal and historical request to the Mayor's Office, based on the technical zoning of the Upper Catamayo River Basin Bioregion.
The initiative is grounded in the constitutional right to participation, social oversight, and the rights of nature, seeking to prevent extractive activities incompatible with the development of the territory.
With the firm objective of safeguarding water, biodiversity, and the economic model of well-being that characterizes southern Ecuador, the Local Citizen Assembly for Participation and Social Control of the Parish of Vilcabamba (ALPCCS-PV) will officially present a formal technical-legal request to the Mayor of the Loja Canton, Diana Guayanay, this Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
The petition formalizes the initiation of the process within the Land Use and Management Plan (PUGS) of the Loja Canton to definitively classify the Upper Catamayo River Basin Bioregion and the Vilcabamba Valley as rural land designated for water protection and biodiversity conservation.
"Vilcabamba has been a National Reserve Zone since 1969 and holds the current recognition as a 'Magic Corner-Valley of Longevity.' Allowing industrial or extractive activities in these water recharge zones would contradict local planning, Ecuadorian legislation, and the landmark jurisprudence established in Loja in 2011 in favor of the rights of the Vilcabamba River," stated the Assembly delegates.
The formal presentation of the document will take place publicly at the Loja Municipality building, with the participation of community delegations, allied organizations, and environmental advocates.
