If you ride through the Amazon, you’ll find tree branches, heavy with colorful pods, ready to be harvested, and that means… It’s macambo season!
Unlike cacao, which is often picked directly from the tree, ripe macambo fruits are either gathered from the ground after they fall or harvested from the tree when they turn yellow.
Many of the Amazonian farmers we work with have been cultivating macambo alongside cacao, vanilla, and native trees to create diverse, nutrient-dense agroforestry systems.
These “bosques comestibles” restore degraded land while generating reliable income from native crops.
This season, ALIADOS supported partners like with farm mapping, post-harvest planning, and buyer connections, ensuring macambo moves efficiently from seed to market.
then takes these super pods to their kitchens and turns them into delicious snacks, like their macambo praline bar.
This macambo season, head to in Quito to try all of the Canopy Bridge macambo treats!
