After years of fieldwork, data collection, and analysis, we have successfully written a comprehensive manuscript in collaboration with an international team of researchers, and we are pleased to present the result of that effort: the most comprehensive movement ecology analysis ever conducted to date for this species, based on data from 19 bears in three national parks in Ecuador. We have published a summary of the most relevant findings on our blog: https://osoandino.org/el-estudio-mas-grande-de-osos-en.../
The manuscript is available as a preprint on bioRxiv (unpeer-reviewed) and will soon enter the formal peer-review process at an indexed scientific journal. If you’d like to help us get this work published as a free, open-access article and continue doing top-tier science, you can support us here: https://www.gofundme.com/.../jtdgns-support-andean-bear...
If you can’t donate, sharing this post is also a way to help us. Every person who knows the story of the Andean bear is another ally in its protection.
Thank you for 30 years of support!

The mountain tapir is the smallest of the four tapir species and the only one not found in tropical rainforests. Mountain tapirs (also known as Andean tapirs or woolly tapirs) are found in cloud forests of the Andes Mountains in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Their fur is woolly, longer, and thicker than that of other tapir species and helps them stay warm in the chilly conditions of their high-altitude habitat.
