Rafael Díaz Recalde was born in Ecuador in 1958, in the province of Imbabura. From a very young age, he showed an interest in art. His training was largely self-taught, although he also had approaches to studies in architecture. From his early years, he developed a strong inclination for drawing and painting, filling notebooks with sketches while working to support his studies.
Throughout his career he has accumulated: Participation in galleries and museums in America and Europe. His life took a significant turn when he emigrated to Europe, settling in Barcelona, from where he projected his work internationally. His work explores the construction of being and contemporary society; his figures of 'smoke heads' reveal the loss of identity in a world saturated with noise and appearances,
