UBECI aims to reduce the hours of children who work in the streets and markets of Quito by engaging them in educational and recreational activities. Providing these children with educational, social, and emotional support allows them to feel respected by their community while experiencing personal growth. As a social and educational foundation, UBECI fights every day for the rights of children so that they can receive love, attention, and education. UBECI works with children and adolescents ages one to seventeen years in order to develop strategies through which we can offer more learning opportunities involving self-reliance, self-worth, and dedication. Look at those new classroom smiles! 💛

Just a few months ago, children in Guamaní were learning wherever space could be found.

Today, they have a dedicated classroom.

This is exactly what your support makes possible.

We’ve now raised $695 towards our $5,000 goal to build the next classroom for children in Quito’s markets.

Help us turn another donated space into a safe place to learn, grow and dream.

Five years later, he’s back.

In 2021, a group of volunteers from Idaho spent weeks teaching alongside Mónica and Byron in Quito’s markets.

On their last day, Jason told us:

“That bus ride home was tough. There were mostly tears, just realising how much difference you’d made. It had changed you. And then it was over.”

Five years later, he’s back.

This time, he’s returned with the younger siblings of those original volunteers.

“They’ve been talking about it for years. They wanted to be part of this story.”

But this visit is different.

Their siblings taught children on the pavement.

This generation is helping build them a classroom.

At UBECI, we believe that when you empower a child, a parent, or a community, lasting change follows.

💛 $650 raised so far towards our $5,000 classroom goal.

Every donation helps turn an empty market storeroom into a safe place to learn.

Right now, many children in Quito’s markets are still learning on pavements, between the noise, crowds and long working days.

But a small change can have a huge impact.

With $5,000, we can transform a market storeroom into a safe, welcoming learning space for children.

What we are building next:

🚪 A secure, lockable door & fresh paint

📚 Basic furniture & learning materials

🎨 A colourful environment where children can learn, grow and build confidence away from the pavements

Watch the video to see how we already transformed a messy storeroom into a thriving classroom at Guamaní Market.

ubecifoundation Bringing the classroom to the market #15

Meet Maria. She has been part of Quito’s markets since she was a little girl.

Today, her grandchildren are educated, independent, and building lives of their own. That change did not happen by accident.

For 25 years, UBECI volunteers have shared life with the children of these markets. They have played with them, studied with them, and believed in what they could become.

For years, children here have been learning on the pavement. Now, an old storeroom at Guamaní market has been transformed into a dedicated classroom, and with your support we can keep going.

Bringing the classroom to the market #14

Why do people choose to volunteer with UBECI?

Because behind every lesson, game and conversation is something bigger, the belief that every child deserves the chance to grow, learn and imagine a different future.

In Quito’s markets, many children face barriers to education from an early age. Our volunteers become part of a wider community working to create confidence, opportunity and support where it is needed most.

* Sometimes that means teaching.
* Sometimes it means listening.
* Sometimes it simply means showing up consistently.

And that can change more than we realise. 💛

Bringing the class to the market #9

We’ve loved sharing Nicole’s story with you.
But not every child has the opportunities she has had.

In Quito’s markets, many children grow up working alongside their families, without consistent access to education.

Without that access, the impact is long term.
Children are more likely to leave school early, face limited job opportunities, and remain in cycles of poverty.

Education changes this.

At UBECI, we take a simple approach.
A low-cost, high-impact model that brings learning directly into the markets.

Through this model, we actively work to prevent school dropout and expand children’s future opportunities.

Even one additional year of schooling can significantly increase a child’s future income and opportunities.

Through these classes, children build confidence, develop soft skills, and begin to imagine a different future.

Nicole is one of the children who has had that opportunity.

Through her scholarship, she is learning English, growing in confidence, and dreaming bigger.

But many children are still waiting.

We can’t do this without your support.
Help us bring education to more children.

When a child is given the chance to learn, everything can change.
