UBECI Mission video https://player.vimeo.com/video/40951814

UBECI aims to reduce the hours of children who work in the streets and markets of Quito by engaging them in educational and recreational activities. Providing these children with educational, social, and emotional support allows them to feel respected by their community while experiencing personal growth. As a social and educational foundation, UBECI fights every day for the rights of children so that they can receive love, attention, and education. UBECI works with children and adolescents ages one to seventeen years in order to develop strategies through which we can offer more learning opportunities involving self-reliance, self-worth, and dedication. A backpack is more than just school supplies. It’s an opportunity to learn, grow, and dream.

As the new school year approaches in Ecuador, many of the children at UBECI need basic school materials to start the year prepared. Together, we can change that.

Your support helps provide backpacks filled with the essential supplies every child needs to succeed in the classroom.

Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to ensuring every UBECI student begins the school year ready to learn.

Donate through the link in our bio or send us a message to learn how you can support the campaign.

Together, we can help every child start the school year with confidence.

The school year is just around the corner.

For many of the children in our program, this means wondering if they’ll have the supplies they need to succeed in the classroom. It’s time for UBECI’s annual Backpack of Opportunities Campaign, because something as simple as a backpack can help open the door to education.

Sponsoring a backpack for one child costs just $12.

For many children in Quito’s markets, the day begins before sunrise.

At 3:00 a.m., families begin working in the markets, and many children grow up surrounded by an environment where education can be difficult to access. Barriers like the cost of school supplies, transportation, and limited resources can prevent children from having the same opportunities to learn and grow.

At UBECI, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn, play, and simply be a child.

This September, we are launching our Backpack of Opportunities: School Kits Campaign to provide children with the supplies they need to start the school year ready to learn.

Each school kit costs just $12 and includes notebooks, pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, erasers, and glue. Our goal is to raise $2,000 to provide school kits for all children currently reached by UBECI.

Your support can help open doors to education and create brighter futures for children in Quito’s markets.

Progress didn’t happen by accident.

The historic photographs in this reel remind us of the resilience, hard work and traditions that have shaped Ecuador’s market communities for generations.

They also remind us that every step towards equal educational opportunity has been fought for.

Today, Nicole dreams of becoming an English teacher.

But more than 360,000 children in Ecuador are still balancing work alongside their education, and many children in Quito’s markets are still learning on market pavements while trying to do both.

Your donation doesn’t just build a classroom. It helps remove one more barrier to opportunity.

By transforming market spaces into permanent classrooms, together we can help move the next generation from the pavement into a safe place where they can learn, grow and thrive.

Look at those new classroom smiles! 💛

Just a few months ago, children in Guamaní were learning wherever space could be found.

Today, they have a dedicated classroom.

This is exactly what your support makes possible.

We’ve now raised $695 towards our $5,000 goal to build the next classroom for children in Quito’s markets.

Help us turn another donated space into a safe place to learn, grow and dream.

Five years later, he’s back.

In 2021, a group of volunteers from Idaho spent weeks teaching alongside Mónica and Byron in Quito’s markets.

On their last day, Jason told us:

“That bus ride home was tough. There were mostly tears, just realising how much difference you’d made. It had changed you. And then it was over.”

Five years later, he’s back.

This time, he’s returned with the younger siblings of those original volunteers.

“They’ve been talking about it for years. They wanted to be part of this story.”

But this visit is different.

Their siblings taught children on the pavement.

This generation is helping build them a classroom.

At UBECI, we believe that when you empower a child, a parent, or a community, lasting change follows.

💛 $650 raised so far towards our $5,000 classroom goal.

Every donation helps turn an empty market storeroom into a safe place to learn.
