Fundación Valle Interoceánico (FUNVAIN), a foundation that was set up in 1995 by Rotary Club Quito Valle Interoceánico (RCQVI), in Quito Ecuador. The aim of the foundation is to serve people in need within the areas of education and health. ildren of the Andes is FUNVAIN’s educational project and through the years we have set up a number of pre-schools in communities in need, in the surroundings of Quito. The school we are currently running is located in Machachi, south of Quito, and opened its doors in the fall of 2011. The idea is to continue with the current construction of the school buildings, in order to be able to welcome more new students for each year. Our dream is to be able to offer poor children a complete primary and secondary education of a good quality. We believe that this could significantly help the community to develop and grow out of their poverty. Rotary’s Medical Center in Cumbayá is FUNVAIN’s project within the health sector. The medical center was started up in 2006 and with the help of sponsors from all over the world, the center now offers a range of general and specialist services to the local community. Although the margins are small, the center is now self-sustainable. We are still very thankful to our sponsors that sustain the Sponsor Fund, which covers the fees for patients that cannot afford paying.
