This project aims to save the only known population of the critically endangered Mindo Harlequin Toad (Atelopus mindoensis), rediscovered in 2019 after being thought extinct for 30 years. The project will implement a rapid-response monitoring program, the protection of the habitat of the only surviving population, and the creation of an ecotourism project to sustain the reserve economically. All these actions seek to increase population densities and ultimately help save the species from extinction.

210 saplings planted! 🌳🌴 We continue our program at the Pitalala Reserve. This work wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of Andrew Sabin Family Foundation, World Rainforest Fund, IUCN Netherlands, EKO.org, IGT Aargau, Lacerta, Minifund, and SwissTerraria.ch

Special thanks to Paul Weulersse and Andrea Aguinda Vlog for helping us plant the saplings that will one day become huge trees or palm trees.

Special thanks to our park ranger Gerardo Obando for undertaking the bulk of the work, and to Luis Milpe for providing the saplings that will one day become huge trees or palm trees.
