A beautiful and productive Friday at the foodbank. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers—and especially our team who made the long trip to Diakonía in Guayaquil—families received four full bags of food, along with fresh verde from the farm to help support their meals over the coming weeks.

Moments of joy were shared too, including a few creative sun shades made from dragon fruit boxes that gave everyone a smile.

Grateful for this community and wishing everyone a lovely Easter weekend.

Another Foodbank distribution day in the books.

This week brought some wonderful new faces to the team. Bernie joined us while Diane is in the States—and did a bang-up job helping with set-up and distribution. We hope to see him again!

We also had Alejandro, visiting his grandfather during his school holiday, who jumped right in and helped from the start. We love when the next generation joins in—it means so much.

And of course… a little fun made its way into the morning too—there was even some dancing with maracas 🎶 It’s a reminder that this work is not only about meeting needs, but also about sharing moments of joy together.
Behind the scenes (and every single distribution day), are the steady hands that make this all possible. Volunteers who show up again and again, ready to serve.

A special recognition to Letty and Mercedes, who not only help on distribution days, but also faithfully attend the monthly work days at Diakonía—helping sort and prepare the food before it ever reaches our community.

This is how it works.
Many people. Many hands. One shared purpose.
Thank you for being part of it.

Every bag of food begins with a simple box in a warehouse.

With the support of our partners at Diakonía and the dedication of our volunteers, those boxes become nourishment for families across Olón.

Every distribution is another reminder that when a community works together, small acts of generosity can travel a long way.

Yesterday’s torrential seasonal rains left muddy paths and flooded roads across Olón and surrounding communities. Because our beneficiaries travel to the foodbank on foot, it would not have been safe to hold distribution on Monday.

So we waited.

Today brought warm, humid air — but no rain — and our families arrived early, eager and hopeful. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, distribution ran smoothly and every family received their food.

In rural coastal Santa Elena Province, many households rely on these supplemental groceries to help bridge gaps in income and nutrition. Rising food costs and limited employment opportunities make these distributions more than convenient — they are meaningful support for grandparents, parents, and children alike.

We are grateful for a community that shows up — rain or shine.

Today’s foodbank distribution was a reminder of what community looks like in action.

Families gathered, volunteers worked with care, and groceries made their way into homes where they will truly make a difference.

We are deeply grateful to every volunteer and supporter who helped turn effort into nourishment and hope.

Today’s foodbank distribution was a beautiful example of community in action.

With food provided by Diakonia and the help of dedicated volunteers who organized, sorted, and bagged everything with care, the day ran smoothly from start to finish. Families throughout Olón—grandparents, parents, and children—received food that helps support their nutritional needs.

As seen in the video, gratitude is always part of these mornings. Beneficiaries often leave not only with food, but with heartfelt thanks for the people who make this program possible.

Thank you to everyone who supports and sustains this work. Together, we continue to nourish both bodies and community.

Some days call for plans. Others call for flexibility. Yesterday was the second kind.

Thanks to fresh produce from Diakonia, our team jumped into extra sorting and bagging so families could receive food while it was still fresh. With short notice, volunteers adjusted schedules, showed up ready to help, and worked together to make it happen.

These moments are a reminder that foodbank work isn’t just about distribution—it’s about responsiveness, teamwork, and ensuring dignity at every step. We’re grateful to our volunteers for their adaptability and to Tomasa for helping spread the schedule change information to our beneficiaries.

Thank you to everyone who made yesterday run smoothly—and for capturing these moments of community and care.

This week has been full of purpose—and we wanted to share a glimpse of the work happening across our Foodbank community.

First, we want to celebrate those who volunteered at the Diakonía Foodbank in Guayaquil. At Diakonía, they helped sort rescued food—food that would otherwise be lost but will now reach families in need across the province. This kind of work strengthens the entire food-security chain that makes our own Foodbank in Olón possible.

We also wrapped up our Banana Bread & Carrot Cake Fundraiser, and thanks to the incredible support of our community, we raised $347 for food purchases. Beyond the funds, events like this help us share our mission and build awareness of the work being done to reduce hunger right here at home.

And of course, we continue with what matters most:
making sure our neighbors in Olón have food on their tables.

Every volunteer shift, every bag of groceries, every fundraiser—all of it comes down to serving our community with dignity and love.
The photos represent the heart of this week:

Thank you to everyone who supports this mission—whether you volunteer, donate, or simply share our message. Together, we’re making a difference.

Listen to the sound of community in Olón—the rustle of food bags, laughter in the line, volunteers moving with purpose.

Today, with support from Diakonia and many helping hands, we placed nutritious food directly into the homes of our beneficiaries.

Why it matters: in Ecuador, millions are projected to face food insecurity this year and coastal areas like Santa Elena are among the most affected.

Your donations and volunteer hours are a lifeline.

Thank you for standing with us.

From Banana Bread to Bright Bags — Rain or Shine!

Even on a wet morning, our community came together with patience, smiles, and umbrellas in hand. Thanks to the success of our banana bread fundraiser, the day’s Foodbank distribution was fully sponsored!

Each bright bag was filled with essentials — rice, lentils, milk, tuna, flour, sugar, salt, oil, and vegetables — all packed with care and shared with our neighbors. And to make the wait a little sweeter, Barb brought treats to share while everyone waited their turn.

A heartfelt thank-you to Barb for her leadership and to every volunteer and customer/supporter who helped make this day possible. Your efforts nourish both body and spirit — building a healthier, kinder community one loaf at a time.

A record-setting day at the Olón Foodbank!

Thanks to our volunteers, 57 families received groceries today — bags filled with staples, treats, and fresh produce.

The energy, teamwork, and compassion were inspiring from start to finish.

And the spirit of giving continues — with the bags remaining after the distribution, Letty, Mercedes, and Tomasa will be visiting nearby seniors to hand-deliver a little extra joy and nourishment.

Thank you to everyone who gives their time, heart, and hands to make sure no one in our community goes without. Together, we’re feeding hope.
