Word Classes: Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, etc

Introduction:

In The Café:
A: Our friends are sitting in the corner, look.
B: I have an important conference at work tomorrow, so I am rather busy.
C: Would you like to come to our party on Saturday, Jessica?
D: This coffee is really good.
E: And it's cheap here.

Kind of Words:

there are 8 different kinds of word in English called ' Word Classes ' or ' parts of speech '

here are some examples from the conversation in the café

1- Verb: have, am, is, would, like, come, are, sitting, look
2- Noun: conference, work, coffee, party, Saturday, Jessica, friends, corner
3- Adjective: important, busy, good, cheap
4- Adverb: tomorrow, rather, really, here,
5- Preposition: at, to, on, in
6- Determiner: an, this, our, the
7- Pronoun: I, it, you
8- Linking Word: so, and

Words in sentences:

Some words can belong to different classes depending on how they are used in a sentence

examples:

Words used as Verbs: The word ' Look '

" Can I look at your phone? "
" We work on saturday morning. "

Words used as Nouns: The word ' Work '
- I like the look of that coat
- I'll be at work tomorrow
