Honored to announce our participation in the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development ( ), organized by the Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), during the session: “Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus: Local Solutions for Global Impact.”
During this event, we presented how our Dionysus Project through its results can enhance Science-Policy Nexus by codesigning sustainble solutions in farming systems and how can we collaborate with other projects to enhance Algerian urban market sustainability.
Our participation was an occasion to share concrete WEFE Nexus work on the ground, drawing from his lessons learnt from two PRIMA projects: DIONYSUS and BLUMI-Med. A reminder of how research translates into real-world impact.Grateful for these exchanges and for the opportunity to amplify Mediterranean voices on one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
The discussions highlighted the importance of placing end users-small farmers, engineers, and local communities- at the heart of innovation and sustainability strategies.

📢 CREAD at 2026 🌱
The Centre for Research in Applied Economics for Development (CREAD) participated in the SIPSA International Exhibition for Agriculture, Livestock and Agro-Industry, where our researchers presented the main results of the project.
This participation was an excellent opportunity to showcase the research work carried out on sustainable food systems, agricultural innovation, and resilience to climate challenges in the Mediterranean region.
The DIONYSUS project highlighted innovative approaches that support sustainable development, strengthen local stakeholders’ capacities, and promote solutions adapted to agricultural territories.
We were also honored and delighted to welcome , Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, at the CREAD stand during the exhibition. His visit reflects the importance of scientific research and innovation in supporting sustainable agricultural development and food security in Algeria.
We would like to thank the SIPSA organizers for providing this valuable space for exchange and collaboration among researchers, professionals, and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

Monitoring the Progress of Our Climate-Resilient Wheat Varieties Trial
Today, we are pleased to share a new milestone in our field experimentation on wheat varieties adapted to climate change challenges in Algeria.
Despite changing climatic conditions, several varieties are showing strong adaptation capacities:
✅ better tolerance to water stress
✅ strong vegetative growth
✅ uniform development
✅ promising potential for food security
This experimentation allows us to assess the agronomic performance of different varieties in order to identify the most resilient solutions for the agriculture of tomorrow. 🌱
Our objective:
🌍 contribute to sustainable agriculture
🌾 strengthen the resilience of food systems
🤝 support farmers in facing the impacts of climate change
We sincerely thank all technical teams, researchers, and partners involved in this initiative.

🎤 The DIONYSUS consortium held its second Annual Meeting in Cairo, Egypt, with the Institute of National Planning hosting the event to move the project from research to impact and to achieve the WEFE Nexus solutions and innovations in Mediterranean agriculture.
📅 Over three days (29-31 October 2025), the DIONYSUS project participants from Europe and North Africa met to:
🌍 Review the progress made by the demonstration sites in Egypt, Greece, Italy, and Morocco to ensure that DIONYSUS innovations have provided farmers with increased productivity, healthier soils, and water saving through innovations like intercropping, saving irrigation water, and solar.
🛰️ Present the progress made by the project partners in the development and deployment of large-scale tools, including the DSS and WEFE Nexus Think Tank.
🤝 Enhance the linkages with science, policy, and society through the WEFE Nexus Think Tank roadmap, message-mining and audience-mapping workshops, and active Action Panels in all demonstration sites.
📊 Develop a clear roadmap and strict timeline for the reporting to be done by PRIMA.
🌐 Explore opportunities with the PRIMA funded projects, to ensure synergies and to share technologies and validation with other WEFE Nexus solutions.
📌 The meeting was a resounding success and ensured that DIONYSUS is on track to provide WEFE Nexus solutions to farmers and institutions across the Mediterranean.

🎤 Organized by DIONYSUS Project, in collaboration with PRIMA Foundation, CIHEAM-IAMM and INP, and in support of key regional and international organizations AOAD, ICARDA, IFPRI, IWMI, WEFE4MED, WWF and GIZ.
A one-day (02/11/2025) WEFE Nexus workshop brought together experts, International organizations, PRIMA funded projects and practitioners to promote structured dialogue, tools and methodologies exchange, and coordination among R&I projects while building the foundation for a permanent regional framework for WEFE Nexus cooperation, aiming to turn Nexus research into actionable policy for Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean.
📅 During the sessions, participants:
🧩 Mapped the current WEFE Nexus landscape, identifying fragmentation, data gaps, and missing social, gender, and economic dimensions as key barriers to scaling successful pilots.
🔗 Agreed on strategic priorities such as a unified data and policy-brief platform, stronger stakeholder engagement, and a regional coordination role to connect projects, knowledge, and decision-makers.
🤝 Co-design the structure of the DIONYSUS Think Tank.
🧭 Refined the governance structure of the Think Tank, and agreeing on a transparent, efficient policy life cycle from drafting to implementation.
🌍 Expanded the membership vision to include development banks, women’s and youth organizations, and innovation actors like incubators and accelerators, with a phased admittance plan and broader geographic scope.
🗺️ Defined a 2026–2028 roadmap, from formalizing the charter and launching the Think Tank to organizing policy conferences, conducting impact reviews, and securing sustainable funding.
📌 The workshop laid the foundation for a functional and inclusive WEFE Nexus Think Tank that can bridge science and policy, amplify local experiences, and support more coherent resource management across the region.

🎤 Hosted by INP and EASD (12/02/2026) - - farmers, scientists, NGOs, SMEs and public officials were all seated at one table in the second action panel workshop to brainstorm how to rethink the future of WEFE (Water-Ecosystem-Food-Energy) nexus long-term adaptation solutions in Egypt. The actual challenges were mapped, and concrete solutions were created.

📅 The key priorities from the panel were as follows:
💼 Increasing modern irrigation systems adoption such as drip irrigation, sprinklers, and raised beds to save water, improve crop yields, and reduce costs.
🔆 Investing in renewable energy sources, such as solar power for irrigation, to cut costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
🎓 Improving extension services and farmers' training programs to improve soil quality, pest management, modern machinery, and climate-resilient agriculture.
💳 Supporting farmers financially through customized finance solutions, agricultural insurance, and better returns for products.
👥 Involving youth and women through local projects, value-added products, and digital technologies such as social media, and digital centers for advice and information.

📌 The meeting resulted in clear action ideas, such as drip irrigation sets, soil testing vehicles, solarization for irrigation systems, greenhouse expansion, modern storage centers, seedling-based sugarcane cultivation, and stronger contracts between farmers and industry.

🌾 This is one step towards building a more resilient, climate-resilient, and economically viable agricultural sector that is more WEFE integrated in Upper Egypt, with farmers at the forefront, who know the land best.
