BREAKING: Inés Páez Nin, also known as Chef Tita, has been recognised with the Champions of Change Award as part of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025.
Inés Páez Nin, is a celebrated Dominican chef and activist who’s transforming lives through food. As the country’s premier culinary ambassador, she has received the Champions of Change Award ahead of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025. Over the past two decades, she has passionately championed local ingredients, like guayiga root and native oysters, despite early criticism from peers. Through her acclaimed restaurants and media presence, she has elevated the status of Dominican cuisine on a global stage.
At the heart of her mission is Fundación IMA, a non-profit she launched in 2015 to support underprivileged farmers and promote local food systems. By connecting rural producers to retailers and using their ingredients in her own restaurants, Chef Tita empowers communities to thrive without leaving their land. Her work is reshaping food supply chains while preserving Dominican heritage. She plans to use the grant from her Champions of Change Award to continue supporting these communities, helping them to buy farming equipment and seeds.
From television stardom to founding Aguají, her latest restaurant inspired by Taíno-Arawak culture, Chef Tita is dedicated to telling Dominican stories through food. She advocates for a deeper understanding of her country’s rich cultural influences, from African to Indigenous, and is working on a children’s book to preserve this legacy. Beyond the beaches, she wants the world to experience the depth, diversity and flavour of Dominican gastronomy and believes food is a powerful tool for social change.
