🐾 From the Streets of Caleta: Meet Maya & Honey 🐾
​Sometimes, being "distinct" is exactly what saves a life.
​Maya’s Story:
Nancy found Maya struggling to keep pace. Her mother and two siblings were moving fast, and Maya—smaller, slower, perhaps just "wired differently"—was falling behind. In the wild, "not keeping up" usually means the end of the story. But Nancy saw the one who was trailing and chose to change the narrative. Maya isn't "behind" anymore; she’s exactly where she needs to be.
​Honey’s Story:
Honey is our miracle in a shirt-sling. She crossed the street right in front of the car—a tiny, fragile soul in the middle of the chaos. When I got out to get her, she looked puzzled. She didn't understand why a human would show her interest or care. She didn't fight; she just let me pick her up. She was soaked through—she might have fallen in water—but she was remarkably clean. A "wet but not stinky" little survivor who had no idea her life was about to change.
​The Sanctuary Update:
Honey is currently resting on a mattress, recovering from the exhaustion of survival. Maya is finding her voice with the pack, play-growling and learning that in this house, you don't have to "keep up" to be loved.
​We are a house of 10 (now 12) smart mutts, construction dust, and a lot of heart. Thank you for helping us keep these "nothing" dogs in the "everything" light. 🕊️
