By stringing together a network of Newark-based growers, the Newark Community Food System (NCFS), an innovative collective of local urban agriculture experts, will support the growth of the local food system, amplify community-led initiatives and develop sustainability around urban agriculture and fresh healthy food access. NCFS will engage community leaders and grassroots urban agriculture organizations, in leading the effort to cultivate greater impact for Newark’s diverse communities. Our combined efforts will also have a positive impact on Renewable Energy, the Visual Arts (i.e. murals, multimedia, fine art), Ecological Building, and Community Health throughout the Newark region. It is necessary to demonstrate how urban agriculture is essential for community development and health. By connecting these dots, it will not only bring some balance within urban environments, but also strengthen resiliency and create an eco-system where available resources are more accessible for residents. Together NCFS will take actionable steps to empower residents to become actively involved in reshaping their food system, while gaining control of their health and environment.
