Twin Rocks eaglet name announcement! LizZ has named 2026 Twin Rocks eaglet ORZEL which is the Polish (her heritage) word for Eagle. Orzel perfectly captures the essence of this magnificent and powerful bird. 💕

LizZ was given this opportunity by a generous donor who wanted to thank her for her contributions to the Channel Island bald eagle community and she is very honoured that the donor would think to do this!

IWS is so grateful for the kind-hearted community of bald eagle watchers, we are constantly blow away by all of their acts of kindness - to us and each other! 💕

These are photos from last spring at Twin Rocks, Erin will be collecting this season's camera when it is safe for her to do so.

Catalina ride-along! 🛻☀️🌊
IWS eagle project lead Erin had a truly wonderful day with two of our favorite bald eagle supporters! 🦅💕
Photos are from Pinnacle Rock (including scope pics of eagle) and Catalina Harbor at the isthumus. In these photos, Chase and Cholyn’s nest is on the other side of the ridge.
Also, our San Miguel bald eagle nest drawing winners have been contacted (two eaglets, two earrings) and we will update soon with their name choices!

Eaglet name announcement! The Pelican Harbor eaglet has been named AERIN, meaning “one who loves the sea” and intended to honor Erin, our incredible biologist! 🦅🌊💕
This naming opportunity was a generous gift from one donor to another!

IWS alumni update!
IWS banded this female peregrine falcon as the sole nestling in a nest on Santa Cruz Island in 2014. 12 years later we can identify her (16AC silver on black) in her current location. She established a territory at Torrey Pines State Park in San Diego County and is followed by a number of bird enthusiasts and photographers. These fantastic photos were taken and kindly provided by Mark Pavelka who has been observing her for a long time. Apparently, she does not like the idea of brown pelicans flying through her territory!
Thank you to all our donors! We will update with drawing results later this week!
Thank you Mark Pavelka for these beautiful photos!

Thank you to our donor Dahlie Conferido! 🦅💕
Lakas is a Filipino word for “strength.” It’s a name chosen in honor of her parents’ first language and their brave journey to build a better life for their family. She wishes this eagle a journey equally as healthy and strong.💗🦅

Link in bio before Monday 6/1 to donate and be entered into our final drawing of the season: win chance to name San Miguel eaglet or a pair of bald eagle earrings! 2:1 match from Explore.org!
