On 18 May, we marked the International Day for Women in Maritime - a day that reminds us of the importance of building a stronger and more inclusive maritime industry for everyone.⛴💙

Women continue to play a vital role across all areas of the maritime sector, contributing with expertise, leadership, innovation, and dedication both at sea and ashore.

Creating equal opportunities and fostering diversity is essential for the future of maritime. An inclusive industry is a stronger industry - one that is better equipped to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.🌊

Thank you to all the women helping shape the future of maritime every single day. 🏅

Photo Competition: Winner of the Maritime Environment Category🌊

Congratulations to Master Poul Hansen from SIUANA ARCTICA for winning the Maritime Environment category with his impressive photograph “SIUANA ARCTICA in Innaarsuit.”

The image captures a striking moment at sea, illustrating the unique conditions of maritime traffic in Greenland and the challenges that come with navigating these waters.🛳

According to the competition’s judges, the left side of the image represents humanity’s ability to operate and navigate in demanding conditions, while the untouched nature on the right reminds us of the raw and powerful environment surrounding it. They also highlighted the “Very good contrasting colors and good composition”.📸

Congratulations to Poul!🥳

At SHW, we are always supportive of initiatives that aim to improve well-being at sea.

Sisse, a student from Marstal Maritime Academy, is currently conducting a research project exploring whether seafarers are aware that mental training can be a helpful tool regarding different aspects of mental health and overall well-being onboard.📌🛳

As part of her work, she has created a questionnaire and is looking to gather responses from people with experience working at sea. 🌊❓
So, if you have a minute or two, feel free to take part in the questionnaire. Your contribution would be highly appreciated by Sisse.🎖️

Photo Competition: Winner of the Nature Category ☘🌟

Congratulations to Chief Officer Mark Dalgaard Nielsen from ORASILA for winning the Nature category with his striking photograph “Ice House in Tasiussaq.”❄

The image beautifully captures the powerful encounter between humans and nature. The enormous iceberg dominates the landscape, illustrating the dramatic and sometimes overwhelming scale of Arctic nature.🏠🌊

According to the competition’s judges, the dimensions of the iceberg appear both violent and frightening, yet they vividly communicate the raw reality of Greenland’s environment - especially for viewers unfamiliar with life and nature in the Arctic.

At SHW, we are proud to celebrate the perspectives of seafarers who capture the extraordinary environments they work in every day.

Congratulations to Mark.⭐

Photo Competition 2025: Photo of the Year 📷

Congratulations to Electrical Officer Jmaurr Go from TORM DULCE for winning Photo of the Year with his powerful image "The Man". The photo also won the category: Life on Board. Well done!⭐

The photo captures a quiet but intense moment inside the engine room. The judges’ states: With “The Man,” we visit the machine. There is something wrong with the mechanics. Does he look it up in a manual or call the chief mechanic? There is a pause.
The orange boiler suit and black interior provide a dramatic contrast. The highlighted nuts on the left side of the image emphasize size. The radio lying on the floor adds to the sense of drama without exaggeration. 🎬

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, Jmaurr, and thank you for sharing such a powerful glimpse of life on board with us. 🌊

Stay tuned for the rest of the winners in the different categories. 😍
