🎓 To PhD or Not to PhD?

A PhD can open many doors, but is it the right choice for everyone?

Join Synapse Odense Hub as we bring together professionals from academia and industry to explore how pursuing a PhD (or not) can shape your career and what opportunities exist beyond the academic route. Through personal stories and different career perspectives, our speakers will share what influenced their decisions, the challenges they encountered, and what they wish they had known earlier. Whether you're considering a PhD, exploring career opportunities, or simply curious about what comes after graduation, this event is for you!

The afternoon will wrap up with dinner and networking, where you'll have the chance to continue the conversation with our speakers and connect with fellow students.

We are back!

We are delighted to announce the re-establishment of Synapse - Life Science Connect in Odense, marking an exciting new chapter for the Odense Hub.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of attending Life Science Totaldag at SDU, where we connected with students from diverse academic backgrounds, introduced Synapse, and shared our ambition to strengthen the connection between students, academia, and the life science industry.

With a new team in place, we look forward to creating meaningful opportunities for students to broaden their professional perspectives, expand their networks, and engage with the broader life science community.

Our first event will take place on 5 November! Further details and registration information will be announced soon.

🎉 This month at Synapse Odense Hub, we've connected with students from SUND and TEK at Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark! Over coffee and cake, we introduced our student organization, Synapse - Life Science Connect to 250+ students at the two faculties.

🧠 We also took this chance to share about our upcoming event on May 8th, which focuses on the intersection of student life and neuroscience. With a focus on how to optimize your studies by understanding the brain's role in sleep, anxiety and stress management.

Among other speakers, psychologist Jakob Linnet will join to teach you about habits, while neuroscientist Åsa Fex Svenningsen will give you more insight into how your brain works when you sleep!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting our first Synapse Odense event of the year: Meet SDU’s Start-up Station – a career event tailored for science students. In collaboration with SDU RIO, we extended invitations to science students eager to explore the realms of entrepreneurship within the life science world.

The event started with a warm welcome from Manuel Kehrer, followed by an insightful introduction to SDU’s Start-up Station by Knud Engbjerg. Attendees were introduced to the various programs available, aimed at empowering students to kickstart their entrepreneurial journeys. Notably, it was revealed that despite the abundance of opportunities, life science students tend to underutilize the resources offered by the Start-up Station, a trend we aim to reverse.

Thøger Jensen Krogh shed light on Life Science Fyn 's mission to foster the growth of the life science sector in Fyn. Life Science Fyn also focuses on establishing an incubator environment in Odense, providing entrepreneurs with local access to laboratory facilities.

Jeppe Olesen presented the audience with the journey of EchoVice ApS, a life science startup, offering a firsthand glimpse into the realities of building a startup in the life science field. One thing worth noting was how it was emphasized that the best time in life to create a startup, is during student life. You have more ownership over your time, than if you worked full time.

The event continued with a tour of Vidensbyen, followed by an ideation session where students collaborated to identify potential problems in life science needing entrepreneurial solutions. This provided not only a platform for networking but also an opportunity to familiarize oneself with the ideation process.

The evening concluded with delicious pizza and a great networking session. A special thank you to Manuel and Knud for their enthusiastic collaboration, making this event a great success.
