URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR PORTIA FROM KENYA:

We come to you with an urgent plea to help Caiclyn Portia Nyawira (Portia), a brave young girl born in July 2015 with Ebstein’s Anomaly, a rare congenital heart condition affecting the tricuspid valve that is currently admitted at Medanta The Medicity hospital, in Gurgaon India.

In December 2017, Portia underwent open-heart surgery at Medanta Hospital, The Medicity, New Delhi, India, where doctors implanted a mechanical heart valve to support her fragile heart.

Tragically, on 18th February 2025, Portia suffered a cardiac arrest when her mechanical valve suddenly stopped functioning. After receiving critical care in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania for nearly a month, she was urgently referred back to India for specialized treatment. She and her mother travelled to Medanta Hospital in New Delhi on 15th March 2025.

Since 18th March 2025, Portia has been fighting for her life in the ICU. Doctors attempted to restore her valve’s function, but it has completely failed. Earlier today, 20th March 2025, she suffered a second cardiac arrest.
To save her life, doctors scheduled an emergency open-heart surgery to replace the faulty valve. This Heart surgery happened on Monday the 31st of March 2025, and she is currently in the ICU recovering.

However, we urgently need to raise $15,000 to cover the remaining cost of her surgery, ICU care, and related medical expenses, as of today Tuesday the 8th of April we have run out of funds (The total bill runs into more than 25.000 USD and we have managed to cover about 10.000 USD) and Portia will be discharged before her treatment is finished and not able to leave the hospital, or get the final treatment as there is an expense that has not been cleared yet.
Portia’s mother has already exhausted all of the funds she had set aside for this medical trip.

We have received a few little donations here at the end of November, for which we will try and give some children in Kenya and Tanzania a good Christmas, and some young girls sanitary pads and a little gift as well.
We will write and post updates on our Facebook, Instagram and website as well, so that you can see what we did with your donation this Christmas.

Donated Sanitary towels to Child Space organisation - In October 2023 Moins Fortunes Donated Sanitary towels to Child Space organisation in Ruaraka in Nairobi which has created a multi-purpose centre that has created a safe and equipped space for both youth and a child-friendly environment. it has become the centre of attraction due to improving menstrual health management to empower adolescent with knowledge and skills on how to manage their menstrual health effectively by ensuring both boys and girls are equally informed.
