☀️ With summer arriving early this year and temperatures already reaching over 30°C in France and the UK 🌡️, the urgency of adapting to a changing climate feels increasingly tangible.

From 15–17 September 2026, we will be exploring how agrivoltaics can help bring together renewable energy and agriculture in rural landscapes, during a study visit with the CoVE (Centre of Vocational Excellence) in Sicily, Italy.

🌿 Participants will engage in hands-on learning at an experimental agrivoltaic plant, explore system design and farm integration, and visit a local agribusiness to see how these systems can strengthen resilience, diversify income and support more sustainable land use.

The programme will also connect technical learning with the area’s socio-economic heritage, including sites linked to Danilo Dolci and his legacy of participatory development and community empowerment.

📢 New opportunity: job shadowing in innovation & sustainable agriculture!

Are you interested in exploring how applied research can support more sustainability in agriculture and rural development? 🌱

Through this flexible three-day job shadowing opportunity at the BETA Technological Center, participants can organise an individual mobility experience tailored directly with the hosting organisation.

Participants will work alongside researchers and technical staff in the fields of bioeconomy, environmental sustainability, and circular economy, with access to laboratories, experimental facilities, and ongoing projects related to soil health, nutrient recovery, climate adaptation, sustainable waste management, and rural development.

A valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, discover innovative practices, and explore how research outcomes can be integrated into vocational education and training across Europe. 🌍

🙌 🌍 in action: peer visit in Poland!

Last week, the Polish CoVE welcomed partners Maurilio Caracci and Jorgen Pedersen for a peer visit focusing on quality monitoring and exchange of good practices at the Zespół Szkół Centrum Kształcenia Ustawicznego w Wojsławicach.

📚 The group observed a lesson led by Tomasz Stefaniak, testing precision agriculture materials developed by the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences.
🌱 They went to Stacja Doświadczalna Oceny Odmian w Sulejowie for a focus on drought-resistant crop varieties.
⚡ They also visited the biogas plant Energia OZ and took part in the school’s Open Day.

This type of activity are valuable steps in strengthening cooperation and sharing innovation in climate-smart agriculture.

🙌 Time to build practical skills in climate-smart agriculture!

Throughout the next few months, you can take part in training courses, workshops, job shadowing programmes – all to support you acquire new knowledge and know-how in resilient farming, innovative production models, agrivoltaics, climate advocacy & more.

Through hands-on experiences, peer exchange, and direct engagement with experts and organisations, participants will:
🔍 strengthen practical knowledge
👨‍🏫 discover new teaching approaches
🤝 build connections between education, industry, and innovation

These activities support a more responsive and future-oriented approach to agricultural education – one that equips learners with the skills needed for sustainable and resilient farming systems.

Peer observation visits are at the core of the project: as we learn from each other across sectors and borders, we can develop innovative solutions to the climate crisis and bring about a climate-smart agriculture across Europe.

Yesterday and today our Sicily CoVE is teaching our international partners - but also local agrarian students and science teachers - about sustainability in olive conditioning, the relatively recent production of tropical fruits on the island, the fermentation process in wine, and so much more.

Climate-smart agriculture is not just a concept; it’s a set of concrete practices that can be applied on the ground.
But what do these practices look like in reality? 🔍

🌿 💧 From improving soil health and water management to enhancing crop and livestock systems, a wide range of strategies are already being implemented across regions. Each of them contributes to making agriculture more resilient, efficient, and sustainable in the face of climate challenges.

We mapped the key strategies and techniques used in Climate-Smart Agriculture across our six Centres of Vocational Excellence.

👉 Explore them in our interactive infographic: https://climatesmart4agri.eu/the-transition-to-csa/

When we think of a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) bringing together vocational education and training providers, businesses, and research and knowledge organisations, one thing is clear: collaboration sits at its core.

🤝 But what does this collaboration look like in practice?

Working at the regional level, our six CoVEs aim to improve the quality, relevance, and attractiveness of vocational training – ensuring it responds to real needs in the agricultural sector.

Yet collaboration is not always straightforward. How easy is it to work across sectors? Do organisations share common goals and approaches that can lead to meaningful partnerships?

We explored these questions through our research, gathering insights from organisations across the agricultural sector.

🔀 Discover the results in our interactive infographic:

💥 Making farming more sustainable and resilient is easier said than done.

The transition towards Climate-Smart Agriculture requires a diverse and evolving set of skills – from technical and environmental knowledge to collaboration and problem-solving. Students of today and farmers of tomorrow need to be ready to adapt, experiment, and make use of new technologies.

🔎 Understanding these skills is key to designing vocational training that truly meets the needs of the sector. Explore the visualisation below, and visit our website to learn more: https://climatesmart4agri.eu/the-transition-to-csa/

Did you know that through EVECSA, young people from across Europe work together with their peers and mentors to tackle real-life agricultural challenges? ✨

Last week in Denmark,
👨‍🎓 19 students
👨‍🏫 supported by 10 teachers-coaches + 2 facilitators
took part in the International Climate-Smart Agriculture Competition Week 🥇

Site visits, teamwork, expert consultations, interviews, creative innovation sessions... Through guided workshops and mentoring, the international teams of students moved from problem analysis to concept development, prototyping, and final presentations in front of a jury.

⚖️ The jury panel was impressed with the unique and inspiring solutions addressing real agricultural and environmental challenges that the students came up with. Their ideas demonstrated not only strong technical knowledge but also a deep understanding of sustainability, innovation, and the future of European agriculture. 🥬 🌿
