Meet Parosphromenus phoenicurus:

A tiny jewel of a fish that exists in a range of just 4 km² on the island of Sumatra.

The IUCN lists it as Critically Endangered, and honestly, standing in the middle of a palm oil plantation, it's not hard to see why. We came to find it. We came to understand what's left. And what we found was both hopeful and heartbreaking. 💔

I will now upload the Census for April 2026. I am sorry for a little delay again, - we have some small issues with the homepage (and it could still be causing some problems) - but hopefully you can now read the full synopsis for Census Spring 2026.

Thank you to the again quite many people who send in their report, - we are very gratefull.
A commentary for the Census is only made for the October Census, so not now.

Hello everyone!
As every April, we will be conducting a census in which you can all report the species and number of individuals of each species that you keep.

How to report?

You can send an email to: [email protected]

Ex: P.Bintan(2,2,10)---(male,female,unsexed)

For those who have never reported, you must include your name and country in the email so that we can properly register you in the census.

When is the census conducted and why?

The census is biennial (April and October) in order to observe the population changes that the two species in captivity may undergo and to keep the number of actual individuals as up-to-date as possible.

The Parosphromenus Project is the international network that links Parosphromenus breeders from all over the world
