We’re proud to share the launch of a new long-term forest conservation initiative spanning Bolivia and Peru👏

With the Andes as a dramatic backdrop, partners from across South America and Denmark came together in La Paz to mark the beginning of this ambitious, multi-phase programme - designed to protect biodiversity, strengthen local livelihoods, and address the drivers of deforestation.

Over the next four years, the programme will:
🌱 Support sustainable, forest-based livelihoods
🛰️ Strengthen community-led forest protection and monitoring
📣 Amplify local voices in environmental governance

At its core is a landscape approach - working across protected areas, Indigenous territories, and surrounding land-use zones to maintain ecological connectivity while ensuring that conservation and local development go hand in hand.

The programme is implemented in partnership with Conservación Amazónica - ACCA, Conservación Amazónica - ACEAA, Fundación para la Conservación del Bosque Chiquitano, and Aktion Amazonas, and funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs through CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling

This initiative is part of the 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐂𝐀 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, working to protect and connect some of the world’s most important ecosystems across the central-western region of South America.

🌍 A step towards long-term, systemic conservation - for forests, people, and climate.

Did you know that Europe’s consumption is one of the main drivers of global deforestation?🌍🌳

This is why the European Union Deforestation Regulation ( ) is so important. It’s the world’s first law designed to ensure that products sold in the EU are not linked to deforestation, holding companies accountable for what’s happening across their entire supply chains.

This law was supposed to come into force soon, but it has already been delayed by 12 months, and now, further delays and dangerous loopholes are being discussed.

If weakened, this regulation could become meaningless, undermining global efforts to protect forests, fight climate change, and preserve biodiversity.

Forests are not just landscapes, they are vital ecosystems, carbon sinks, and homes to millions of species and communities. We cannot afford to let this opportunity slip away.

✊We need strong, effective action. Not delays.

The Amazon and other forests worldwide are under pressure from global consumption, including EU imports of cocoa, beef, soy, palm oil, coffee, rubber, and wood🌍

The petition calls on EU leaders to fully implement the , a law that prevents products linked to deforestation from entering European markets.

Delays and attempts to weaken it put forests, climate, and communities at risk. Full implementation could save tens of millions of trees in its first year and avoid hundreds of millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

We support this effort and encourage everyone who cares about forests and the Amazon to make their voice heard.

🌳Today is !

And just yesterday, Denmark reached its Overshoot Day: the point where we’ve used more from nature than the Earth can regenerate in a year.

The two are deeply connected.

Forests aren’t just numbers or statistics. They regulate our climate, protect biodiversity, and support millions of people. When they disappear, it’s not only trees we lose; it’s balance.

The Amazon is one of the most vital ecosystems on our planet. Protecting it means protecting communities, species, and the future we all depend on.

At Aktion Amazonas, we work alongside indigenous communities to defend their forests, because the solutions already exist, and they start with the people who know these ecosystems best.

💚If you want to be part of that:Support indigenous-led projects, make conscious choices, and help keep this conversation alive.

What we do here matters there.

Did you know that macaws can live up to 50 years in the wild and form lifelong pair bonds?🦜💛 You almost always see them in pairs because once they find a mate, they stay together for life.

📸These two macaws from the Bolivian Chiquitanía are interlocking their beaks, a behavior that strengthens trust and partnership. Macaws are highly social and intelligent birds, relying on large, intact forests for nesting, feeding, and raising their young.

Sadly, habitat loss and deforestation put their populations at risk. On , we celebrate wildlife like these incredible birds, and the forests that make their lives possible. Protecting them is protecting an entire ecosystem💚

🗓️20 February is World Social Justice Day. Today, we introduce you to three Chiquitano community members from Laguna Marfil in the Bolivian Chiquitanía whose daily work reflects what justice looks like in practice.

🌽Dora works in a communal chaco, a communal cultivation area where crops are grown and shared among families. There, she grows corn, peanuts, beans, and rice. Most of what she harvests feeds her family and sustains their animals. If there is surplus, it can be sold. This collective agricultural work is one of the most common and essential forms of labour in native Chiquitano communities.

👨🏼‍🌾Antonio is the only active traditional hatmaker in his region. Using fibres from native plants that grow in the fields around him, he handcrafts each hat over the course of a full week. He wakes up at 4 AM to work on them before tending his family’s chaco. Although he is currently the only one making these traditional hats, he remains optimistic and hopes to teach young people who are interested so the knowledge continues.

🧵Luisa weaves on a traditional wooden loom, using techniques passed down through generations. With her hands, she creates hammocks and textiles that carry the knowledge and identity of her community. Her work is careful, intentional, and deeply rooted in ancestral wisdom. It is not only craft, but cultural continuity.

For the Chiquitano communities, justice means:

☑️The right to maintain cultural knowledge☑️The right to work their land☑️The right to sustain themselves with dignity

👉🏽Protecting the Amazon is not only environmental work. It is protecting the people, traditions, and livelihoods that keep it alive.
