Sarkar formulated his theory in response to what he saw in the world."I was compelled to formulate the theory of Prout." It was not academic speculation, it was a concrete response to concrete afflictions. Physical afflictions are born from lack of food, clothing and what is necessary to live. Psychic afflictions arise from mental suffering, even when material abundance exists: loss, anguish, loneliness. Spiritual afflictions come from feeling separated from the infinite, from not reaching fullness. They are not separate damages: they are one single fracture. That is why Prout is not only about economics: it is an integral response to all three.
