Belonging isn't just a feeling. It's a seat at the table.
Last week InDe joined Lyngby Day at Lyngby-Taarbæk City Hall for an afternoon bringing internationals, students, newcomers and local organisations together to talk about building a life in Denmark.
InDe board member, Maria Siboni shared our vision, of a Denmark in which internationals are not simply present in society, but are meaningfully heard within it. Ensuring that the perspectives and lived experiences of internationals reach the people shaping policies and making decisions is central to our mission.
Participants were invited to explore our Policy Agenda, find the issue they care about most, and join us.
One message resonated strongly throughout the afternoon: wherever we're from, moving countries means leaving people and roots behind. That creates a longing for belonging, and belonging isn't just sentimental. It stretches into the social, economic and political life of the society we're building a future in. It means having a voice where decisions get made.
Our conversations touched on critical issues including schooling, housing, and access to the labour market. One young participant from DTU captured a fundamental challenge with striking clarity: it's hard to know what's going on in Denmark when there's no forum to discuss it.
That's the gap InDe wants to help close.
