Enough talking. It is time to do things together.

Yesterday marked the start of a shift in how we approach international talent in Denmark.

Last night, InDe and Danes Worldwide, with the generous support of Copenhagen Capacity, brought together key stakeholders working with international professionals in Denmark.

More than 70 participants gathered for informative panel discussions, structured networking, and conversations that continued long after the programme ended.

Two questions cut through the room:
👉 Are we here as a resource, or are we allowed to belong?
👉 International talent needs to be at the table where decisions are made.

These questions reflect a wider reality.

International professionals bring competences that are missing in the Danish labour market and contribute to economic growth. And yet, only around 50% stay after five years.

This is not just a labour market issue. It is about navigating systems, building networks, and feeling part of society.

At present, efforts remain fragmented. Many good initiatives exist, but they are short-term and disconnected. There is still no coordinated national strategy for international talent in Denmark.

What is needed is stronger collaboration to move from fragmentation to impact. Not only to attract talent, but to retain it, and to ensure people feel they belong.

There is also still widespread scepticism to address. We will not shy away from that conversation.

We look forward to turning this into action in the months ahead.

We’re bringing organisations together and we don’t want to miss you 🤝

Every organisation working with internationals in Denmark brings a perspective, network, and experience that others can learn from. That’s why we want you to join us.

On 16 April, InDe and Danes Worldwide are hosting a first-of-its-kind gathering for organisations supporting internationals across the country.

For years, many groups have helped internationals, from employment and talent attraction to inclusion and global mobility. Too often these efforts happen separately. This event is about changing that.

The evening (17:30–20:00) starts with a panel discussion followed by a facilitated networking session to spark connections and explore how stronger collaboration can create real impact 💡

If your organisation works with internationals in Denmark, we want to hear from you 🚀

🌍 Supporting International Talent in Denmark — Together

International employees are a vital asset to Denmark’s workforce — and we support this initiative 100%.

A good job alone doesn’t guarantee a good life. That’s why Danish Industry (DI) has launched Rooted in Denmark, a national partnership bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen the well-being and long-term retention of international employees and their families.

As Kinga Szabo Christensen, Director of Advisory Services at DI, explains:

“International employees are a great asset to Denmark. That’s why we need frameworks that ensure both they and their families thrive.”

The partnership brings together DI, Finance Denmark, FH, DA, IDA, 3F, Akademikerne, KL, Copenhagen Capacity, Dansk Metal, and Danish Universities — acknowledging that this challenge cannot be solved by one organisation alone.

The focus is practical and people-centred:
• Jobs for accompanying partners
• Danish language learning
• Retaining international graduates
• Navigating the Danish labour market and model

Many organisations already know this reality: international employees may love their work, yet still feel disconnected from everyday life. When that gap isn’t addressed, talent leaves.

Rooted in Denmark is an important step towards making Denmark not just a place to work — but a place to belong.

Dear international friends, dear Danish friends,

The ongoing tensions surrounding Greenland fill us with deep concern. As an association of internationals in Denmark, we feel a responsibility to speak out.

First and foremost, we want to express our solidarity with the people of Greenland. Some of us come from countries that have experienced invasion, and we understand all too well what this means. We stand with you.

We also invite our fellow internationals to stand in solidarity with Denmark and its people. This country welcomed many of us when we needed it. Now that it faces uncertainty, we believe it is our duty not to step back.

What is happening is not only an issue for Greenlanders and Danes—it concerns all internationals living in the Kingdom.

To our Danish friends: we know many of you are angry with the US government. So are we. But this must not be directed at Americans living in Denmark. The fact that they have chosen to live here speaks volumes about the values they stand for. Their hearts, like yours and ours, are broken.

We are proud to be part of this community—and to stand together in times like these.

✨ Looking Back on an Incredible Year for InDe ✨

As 2025 ends, we want to say a BIG THANK YOU to ALL our members, volunteers, and our board. What we’ve achieved together this year is truly remarkable.

One in five people in Copenhagen is now an international.
Our community is strong — and InDe exists to make that voice even louder.

This year brought so many good memories:

🌟 InDe Connect events — from our inspiring session with Annie Samples to our summer conversation with Michael Bach Petersen from Danes Worldwide.

🌟 Regular InDe Meet-Ups that helped new friendships begin — and we want many more in 2026.

🌟 Our biggest presence yet at International Citizen’s Day, where we welcomed so many new faces.

🌟 InDe Goes Nationwide – EU Events, connecting internationals with Denmark’s role during the EU Council Presidency.

🌟 Supporting internationals during the local and regional elections, helping ensure their voices were heard.

🌟 We also raised awareness about the impact of mass layoffs on internationals — people who contribute so much to Denmark yet often face losing not just a job, but their right to stay.

Also strengthening InDe from the Inside Out: Behind the scenes, we’ve built the foundation that powers everything we do:

💙 Held our first General Assembly and elected InDe’s first board
💙 Ran three full-day strategy workshops and bi-weekly board meetings
💙 Expanded our network and grew our volunteer team
💙 Submitted key funding applications to secure our future
💙 Co-hosted events with Community House, AMIS, and Alida
💙 Launched a pro-bono coaching programme for internationals

This groundwork strengthens our mission — and shows the real value of being part of InDe.

And finally......................

Looking Ahead - In 2026, we’re planning:

✨ More InDe Connects
✨ More Meet-Ups
✨ A major spring event that will bring our international community together like never before

Thank you for being part of InDe and for helping us shape a stronger, more connected international Denmark.

As election week unfolded in Denmark, InDe had the privilege of participating in the event “From Awareness to Action: How Trust, Civic Empowerment, and Participation Can Strengthen Our Democratic Communities” at Ungdommens Demokratihus. The gathering brought together social organisations, internationals, and local candidates to explore how we can build a more inclusive and engaged democratic culture.

Speakers including Mikaela v. Freiesleben, ph.d., Bernardo Basilici Menini, Nicola Morelli, and Elizabeth Williams Ørberg, PhD shared thoughtful perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing both internationals and Danes. A central insight emerged: democracy grows stronger when more people feel seen, informed, and empowered to participate.

Discussions touched on the rise of populism, reinforcing trust in democratic processes, and ongoing challenges like affordable housing — an issue affecting both newcomers and long-term residents. There was a strong emphasis on creating spaces where Danes and internationals can collaborate, build relationships, and see how everyone’s contribution matters. Local candidates encouraged internationals to actively engage in the democratic process and recognize their stake in the community’s future.

What stood out most was the shared curiosity and genuine desire to learn more about Danish democracy — not as observers, but as active participants.

💬 Thank you to all speakers, participants, and organisers for making this discussion so insightful and inspiring.
