🏄🏼 Keep cool and stay in the zone.

Blue Flag beaches that support multiple activities must have clear zoning in place to keep everyone safe and ensure that swimmers, surfers, windsurfers, and motor craft drivers do not get in each other’s way. Buoys, beacons, or signs help demarcate the different areas. By staying in the zone, you are not only protecting your fellow beachgoers but also the sensitive marine and coastal environment.

🛟 Are you working to make the shore a safer place for everyone? Share your expertise!
The International Life Saving Federation (ILS), one of the Blue Flag International Jury members, is inviting organisations worldwide to contribute to an international survey about Public Rescue Equipment (PRE).

The survey seeks information about existing equipment and programmes, guidance and decision tools, examples of good practice, legal and governance issues, and what organisations need from future international PRE guidance.

Blue Flag National Operators, beach and marina operators, public authorities, and other organisations involved in site safety are particularly encouraged to contribute.

The survey should take approximately 15–20 minutes to complete and will remain open until Monday 2 November 2026:

🔵 Blue Flag Good Practice Spotlight 2025-2026

🪸 What if learning about the sea could bring us closer together?

The Danish Outdoor Council Friluftsrådet manages two of Foundation for Environmental Education's programmes in Denmark, Eco-Schools and Blue Flag). In this collaborative project, the two programmes joined forces and worked together with local nature guides (Naturvejlederne Sønderborg) and school teachers to create educational material about the Danish marine environment.

The idea was not just to combine skills and expertise but also to turn the beach into a classroom and complement lessons with fieldwork at or near Blue Flag beaches, where teachers could work together with Blue Flag nature guides. Through the promotion of the material in both programmes, the project aims to strengthen collaboration and inspire more students and educators to learn about marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and human impact on the sea.

That’s why it is mandatory for Blue Flag beaches to provide an adequate number of clean, publicly accessible toilet facilities. Facilities for people with disabilities should also be provided. A milestone for Blue Flag in China 🇨🇳🔵

Weihai International Bathing Beach has become the first beach in China to be awarded the Blue Flag.

Located along Weihai Bay, the beach was recognised following work across water quality monitoring, accessibility, biodiversity education, environmental activities, and coastal management.

The achievement also reflects strong local engagement. Since January 2026, NGOs in Weihai have organised 31 volunteer beach clean-ups, alongside activities encouraging residents and visitors to play their part in protecting the coastline. 🌊

Congratulations to our National Operator, CEEC, Weihai International Bathing Beach, and everyone involved in bringing the Blue Flag Programme to this new milestone in China.

🧑‍🦽 How inclusive is your destination? Accessible tourism is an essential part of creating destinations that can be enjoyed by everyone.

The European Network for Accessible Tourism (ENAT) is inviting Destination Management Organisations across Europe to take part in its Accessible Tourism Survey, and we at Blue Flag hope you’ll join us in contributing.

Whether you work at national, regional, city or municipal level, your experience can help build a clearer picture of the accessible tourism measures and initiatives already being developed across Europe.

The findings will inform an ENAT Summary Report this autumn, analysing current practices and providing recommendations to help destinations strengthen their accessible tourism offer in the context of the new EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy.

We’re also proud of our close collaboration. ENAT brings its expertise in accessible tourism to Blue Flag’s International Jury, helping us strengthen our commitment to beaches, marinas, and tourism boats worldwide.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 Sharing Blue Flag experience across borders!

A delegation from Kyrgyzstan recently visited Türkiye to learn first-hand from its experience implementing the Blue Flag Programme.

During the five-day study visit, the delegation explored Mavi Bayrak Türkiye Blue Flag beaches, marinas, and tourism boats, learning about water quality monitoring, environmental education, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable tourism practices.

The visit is a great example of global knowledge exchange. 🌊
