What does the ocean mean to you? 🌊

For Blue Flag, the ocean represents responsibility, connection, and a shared commitment to protect one of our planet’s most valuable resources. 💙

Through high environmental and social standards, the maintenance of clean and safe beaches, marinas and tourism boats, and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Blue Flag works to ensure that coastal ecosystems remain places of beauty, health, and sustainability for everyone. 🏖️

Protecting the ocean means respecting marine ecosystems and empowering our communities through knowledge and collective action. Every step forward strengthens our ability to create impactful change. 🌐

At Kappad Beach in the region of Kerala, hundreds of endangered wild orchids found a second home through a unique biodiversity initiative led by DTPC Kozhikode events and Malabar Botanical Garden, after being initially displaced by the development of a highway. Carefully relocated, geotagged, and nurtured within the beach ecosystem, these orchids thrive as a model for conserving biodiversity in ecologically sensitive coastal regions.

A beautiful blend of science, community, and sustainable tourism, proving nature and progress can grow together.

Members of the Blue Flag International Jury and staff met last week at Foundation for Environmental Education's Head Office.
The Jury plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of the programme, ensuring that every awarded site meets consistently high standards worldwide.

Both the National and International Juries bring together the full range of stakeholders involved in Blue Flag sites, combining expertise, oversight, and shared responsibility to uphold quality across the network.

We are grateful for the time, expertise, and commitment these members contribute in service of the Blue Flag programme. New Blue Flag sites will be published the third week of May on the webpage: https://www.blueflag.global

🏖️ 5,216 sites. One global standard. Blue Flag isn’t just a label. The programme turns beaches, marinas, and tourism boats into hubs for environmental education and local action.

In 2025, the programme expanded globally, strengthened its criteria, and built new partnerships to drive change across the tourism sector.

From local training to global policy platforms like COP30, Blue Flag proves one thing:
standards matter, but education is what makes them stick.
